Broom and Boom will be participating in the upcoming #SteamNextFest !

The demo is already out, so give it a try if soaring through the skies, blasting goblins on broom-likes appeals to you : s.team/a/4051030

A banner image for a game called Broom and Boom for the upcoming steamnext fest. On the left is information about steamnextfest, the name of the game (broom and boom) and the game developer name (martijn folmer). On the right is some promotional art, depicting a witch on a robot vacuum, surrounded by some goblins on brooms, balloon and rocket.

Kane and lynch fragile alliance multiplayer comes to mind. You played bankrobbers fighting AI controlled police. The person with the most money at the end wins, so you were incentivized to betray others, or let them fight the ai by themselves.

Ran the breda #singelloop today, a half marathon. Feeling pretty good about myself right now

Going to keep training for my first full marathon in Rotterdam in april💪

After finishing the demo for 'Broom and Boom', I can now continue with the development of the game itself.

The joy of #indiedev is that ideas like 'a witch in a bucket and mop, with a minigun' can be implemented just because you want it to exist

I think cards

I have been conditioned for years to correlate cards with actions, in both board- and videogames. If I see meeples, I'm thinking 'why are there some units so close to my camera?'

If you insist on meeples, you could consider having them in a dedicated GUI region instead of in hand

I'm brainstorming games I want to make after 'Broom and Boom', but for every idea I need to get better at #art. So I'm going to make an effort to practice a bunch

Also, due to some pavlovian response, any knight I draw inevitably ends up vaguely resembling Shovel Knight

pixelart, a 3/4 top down view of a simple blue knight with a feather in his face obscuring helment. The armor is outlined by a bright red.

This is a special #wishlistwednesday for me, because it is the first time I got a demo out for people to try!

Please consider checking it out and let me know what you think : s.team/a/4051030

Been working hard on getting the demo for Broom and Boom ready for the upcoming #steamnextfest, and I have finally released it! I'm both nervous and exited to share it with people

The steam store page of the demo version of Broom and Boom, a 2D game about a witch flying on broom-likes, shooting guns and magic spells at goblins on brooms in aerial combat.

That looks very interesting. Does clearing the rows get you blocks which you then spend on actions with your ship?

Keep up the good work

Often, bugfixing is making improvements to mechanics, preventing crashes, observing AI behaviours, etc.

And sometimes it is checking that the game still functions if the player doesn't press any buttons for a good while

Had issues with goblins flying into you from off screen. So now I made some arrows that point where non-visible enemies are

It removes some uncertainty, but helps with planning aerial maneuvers, which ultimately serves the game experience I think

Thanks, much appreciated!

Luftrausers is a huge inspiration, well spotted!

Never heard of Triplane turmoil, but now I'll check it out

Just played a feature complete version of my demo for the first time. Milestone feels good

It is about half an hour long if you want to unlock everything, like the robot vacuum, chainshield and chronomancy

The witch heals by cackling (obviously). Cackling prevents you from accelerating with your broom, so you start dropping down

Doesn't prevent you from firing your gun in freefall though

Got the intro screens fully functioning. Just getting the story panels to fade in correctly and in time with the textboxes was educational

I got a demo coming out soon, please consider a wishlist : s.team/a/3673790

Currently working on the 3 introductory story panels that show up when you boot up the game. Made a recording of me drawing one of them

I've accepted that the art style looks kind of rough, but at least it is a uniform look and gets the point across

Got formatting and functionality to work in the options menu

The scrollwork fits with the magical book theme, but I might need a higher quality asset

Then again, it doesn't clash with the rest of the aesthetics, so maybe I'll leave it as is

Reigns: Your Majesty had a neat system with effectively 4 HP bars (church, people, military, economy). Actions raise or lower them, and hitting empty or full on any bar ends the game.

Haven't seen many games where taking too much damage or healing too much both lead to a game over

Thank you, much appreciated!

Aesthetically, I see your point. But I would argue the physics based movement, variation of enemies, customization of the PC adds a little something.

Then again, so many games can be reduced back to asteroids-'move around and shoot', maybe there is some deeper ur-truth to it 😉

As the clock ticks down, more and more enemies of different varieties spawn. It can get a bit hectic in the skies

If you get to the selection screen and you have unlocked something new, an NPC magic book companion will pop up and elaborate on what you unlocked
