Finished all individual limbs of the goblin mech. Now for finetuning the damage, range, speed and visuals of each attack

Currently, it is way to easy to just let the mech blow itself up using its own missiles. But it is on theme for a ramshackle goblin mech 🤔

Not much gamedev updates this week, just working on bugfixes and small improvements to Broom and Boom

I do know that I want one of the major supporting characters in my next game to be a plague doctor, so I'm improving my art skills by drawing one every day

Also, collages are fun

There is a single-car lane in front of my place. Two opposing cars can't pass. The drivers have opted to solve this dilemma by honking at each other, presumably to assert dominance

One of them in long 10-second bursts, the other rhythmically in a 3-on, 1-off beat

They've been at it for 5 minutes

Exactly one year ago, I started posting #gamedev updates

Since then, I've released one game on steam and will soon release another

Playing around with a little spider mining robot, legs use dynamic animation using reverse kinematics, I like the way it works #gamedev

Went to the chainsaw man movie yesterday, I enjoyed it a great deal, highly recommended.

Reze is fun, as a character she is emblamatic of the wild shifts in tone that the series goes through, which is a large part of its charm for me

For this #screenshotsaturday, I added the goblin king pilot to the chest of the mech and the arm attack

Needs work on depths and offsets, the arms passing behind the pilot looks off

But rocket fists are cool, so I'm keeping the attack. Now for the other limb attacks...

I want the final boss of Broom and Boom to be this shoddily constructed goblin mech made of random pieces of wood and bolts

Currently working on the head. Still needs and attack. Bullets from the eye sockets perhaps?

Been working on Broommancy ,the magic spell that turns your broom-like (in this case, a giant sponge) into a bullet and increases your collision damage

I like the colorful trail it leaves behind

There are 10 000 combos (10 of spells, spirit animals, weapons and brooms each) in my game, meaning some edge cases that need a little extra code

One of them is the throwable shield combined with the spell that turns all bullets into fireballs

Hence, the exploding fire shield

Making a first pass at the final enemy

It's a giant mechanical goblin, with the goblin king in its torso, its center protected by destructible limbs

Never made a boss enemy before. Complexity goes up, which seems fair for the culmination of the game

Was flipping through my sketchbook, found one of my first idea sketches for what would become Broom and Boom.

It all started with the thought 'what if witches on brooms, but guns?'. Fast-forward half year later, I'm getting ready for release

This feeling is good.

For #screenshotsaturday, let me show an unlockable customization combo for the Witch

The minigun, with Bulletmancy (turns bullets to fireballs), spirit animal Clippy (increase fire rate) and the mop and bucket (absorb enemy health on kill)

Game balance at its finest

My game sprite practice, number 2 through 5.

Like most #gamedev skills I had to learn, I just started doing it under the assumption that practice will make perfect

Which is fairly unstructured, so I'm open to any suggestions of people on how you go about getting better at #pixelart

#gamedev question. After finishing my third game, I'm considering trying godot for my next one. I'm a long time gamemaker dev and would love to hear any words of wisdom or warning.

I'm not worried about coding (lots of C#, python, C++ in my dayjob), just, how pleasant is godot in #indiedev?

Sometimes, you play a game that says the exact words you need to hear at that point in your life

For me, that is Dungeons of Hinterberg right now. Rarely have I connected with a player character as strongly

Made a first pass at the 7th spell you can unlock, summoning a circle of goblin seeking knifes

It needs some more work. Perhaps fly with the player for a bit, some streaks in the sky as they home in, definitely more visible impact

After finishing the demo for 'Broom and Boom', I can now continue with the development of the game itself.

The joy of #indiedev is that ideas like 'a witch in a bucket and mop, with a minigun' can be implemented just because you want it to exist

I'm brainstorming games I want to make after 'Broom and Boom', but for every idea I need to get better at #art. So I'm going to make an effort to practice a bunch

Also, due to some pavlovian response, any knight I draw inevitably ends up vaguely resembling Shovel Knight
