As today is world whale day, I've prepared something wonderful for you all! This is Squalodon, namely the species S. whitmorei, the largest member of the genus! It has a comparatively shorter and wider rostrum than S. calvertensis, and a larger body size too! (6-8m(?) max!)

After we published the new specimen of #Spicomellus a few weeks ago, we were contacted by George Blasing, who said he'd bought some on the commercial market, and wanted to return it to Morocco. It arrived last week. Thanks George for doing the right thing in the name of science!

Happy #nationalfossilday and #whalewednesday! This is Waharoa ruwhenua, a critical fossil for understanding the early evolution of baleen whales. Waharoa was discovered in 26 million year old limestone in New Zealand, and likely had both baleen AND vestigial teeth. 🧵1/

A whale skull in four different views (top, right, bottom, left). The skull is white and orange with reddish iron oxide staining, and the mandibles are preserved in situ; the rostrum is flat and narrow, and overall the skull is shaped like a surfboard.

Some work out recently made, cetotherium riabinini is a small baleen whale from the Late Miocene of the Eastern Paratethys sea (Ukraine), a almost complete individual show it had remarkable body proportions unlike modern elongated species in a minuscule size.

To whom it may concern,

I am ending all involvement with The Sanctum, an art project that has produced models and artwork of mesozoic vertebrates, and was in the planning stages of making a documentary about mesozoic vertebrates.

I have learned that the project’s leader Omar Lagarda González (aka Darknix) made inappropriate and unwanted sexual advances online to a person whom he knew to be 16 years old.

I will no longer be involved in any collaborative art, science communication, or research projects with Omar Lagarda González. Any further use of my name in relation to such projects is without my permission.
