I used to do ALT text all the time. I stopped doing it when I saw little evidence anyone paid attention to it. In the future I will try to use it, if it doesn't distract from the beauty of the photo.

Marty’s photo of the day #4859: I shot this photo at the edge of the Great Blue Hole, which is located 45 miles off the coast of Belize. Stunning coral surrounds the hole, and on the left side of this photo you can see where it plunges to a depth of 407 feet.
