The South Glos Birds 2025 year list realised 200 species and forms this week (full total 204) with the addition of Pectoral Sandpiper spotted on Pilning Wetlands, New Passage on the 27th.

Rounded off an excellent week with a Sabine’s gull from Severn Beach, pushed up the channel on squally weather. Also, 8+ Manx, comic and black tern, and spoonbill all on the river.

1941:
Six on fallow ground adjoining Sea Wall Farm, Severn Beach on September 9th.

Around 30 have been seen in S Glos since the first and all between February and November (except May and July)

One seen from Aust during a storm on September 7th was watched for around three hours and may also have been seen subsequently from New Passage.

September 1st:

A super Buff-breasted Sandpiper at CVLake, Somerset today was a very welcome start to the autumn passage.

It was performing nicely on and off on Nunnery Point despite the, sometimes, torrential rain.
