The solution? Radical acceptance that it can happen to anyone. You need a Plan B that actually works:
✅ Automation is key
✅ Isolated, immutable data copies (automated, operational, air-gapped Vault)
✅ Guaranteed recovery (Disaster recovery is not Cyber recovery)

When you lack the staff to fight off attacks and recovery takes weeks, not every business makes it out alive. The bankruptcy case in Germany/Euskirchen is the tragic proof. Relying purely on an insurance policy isn't a strategy.

The situation from 2024 has only gotten worse:

Insurance premiums remain extremely high & requirements for coverage have skyrocketed.
The cybersecurity skills gap has grown from ~2.7M to ~4M globally. We just don't have the people.

A cyberattack just pushed a German software company into bankruptcy. It's a brutal wake-up call that proves: cyber insurance alone isn't a life raft. It's often just a Band-Aid.
