Wistman's Wood on Dartmoor is just one of a few remaining temperate rainforests in the UK. I find it hard to photograph because it's spectacular but also visually "noisy". It was pouring with rain and blowing a gale (storm Benjamin).

Don't go chasing waterfalls they said, but on this overcast day the River Tavy on Dartmoor was a great subject. This was taken hand-held at 8mm (12mm equivalent) at 1/15 (thank you IBIS).

Last week's #52frames challenge was a "day to night" image, so I thought I would have a go with the Radcliffe Camera. It was harder than it looks because the Rad Cam is not lit after dark, so I chose to shoot just after sunset, so you can still see it

I visited the newly-opened Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities last week under sunnier skies. This dome structure sits over the central atrium and working area. It's a great building with excellent facilities.

I visited RAF Upper Heyford last weekend, a former USAF Cold War base. Fascinating history (the heritage centre guides were great)

1: Watchtower in the nuclear weapons area
2: Mural opposite a nuclear bomb store
3: 6 inch thick blast door
4: Hardened aircraft shelters where F-111 bombers were kept

Sunset over the dreaming spires of Oxford last night. I had hoped that a gap in the clouds would make a sunset happen, and was lucky to catch it with the drone for the minute or two it lasted. Not as much luck with the lunar eclipse, which was covered by cloud.

These Roman ruins from Leptis Magna (in modern-day Libya) were "gifted" to the British Museum in 1816. The Royal landscape gardener realised they would be perfect for a romantic ruin to be reflected in his new ornamental lake, Virginia Water.

Pembroke College library is an amazing place to visit. The windows on this wing are formed from salvaged stained glass of the medieval chapel wrecked in the Reformation --- except for the window at the end, purchased in the 1600s.

Looking very much like a gothic castle is the massive Hospices de Beaune, built in the mid-15th century to care for the poor before death. It was mostly about preparing for the afterlife; there were no medical staff or anything like a doctor when it opened.
