I’m curating an exhibition of Mathematical Art at the Australian Mathematical Society meeting in December. If you’re coming to the meeting and you create art with mathematics, please think about being involved. More information to appear at the conference website.
Apparently there’s also silo art in North Geelong, and I will definitely change the route I use when visiting my father there to check it out. Mum liked country cemetery side quests, and now I seem to have found mine….

There’s silo art off the main trails! This one is in Brunswick. Yes, that’s the former NZ Prime Minister in inner suburbs of Melbourne.

AI kindly told me that the file containing the gallery labels for the upcoming exhibition of mathematical art which I am curating was a long file, and it offered to summarise it for me.

For how many weeks will my social media feeds be filled with ads and offers for things my family members suggested they might like for Christmas?

I helped with a community art project for Christmas and there were so many left over polar fleece scraps destined for landfill that I had no unvent polar fleece tinsel.

Beautiful yellow flowering gum in Rupanyup. I’d never seen a bright yellow one before: red, pink, orange, scarlet, cream but not this golden shade.

Parallelograms in the wild (paving in Bendigo).

Thirty birds on the silo at Murtoa. Again, by artist Smug.

Silo Art at Sheep Hill. (No sheep, no hill. )

Oh my giddy aunt. Murtoa Stick Shed.

The OG. The first silo art is so huge that it is best viewed from the other side of the highway. It’s at Brim. Last one for today at Arkona. It looks warmer than it is because of clear skies.

We’ve also been deciding whether road signs deliver on their promises. Dry Creek did. Kangaroos Ahead did not. One Tree Hill over delivered.

Trying to spend some money in these little towns. A bit tricky midweek, but we’ve done our best with food and the odd op shop. I’m looking forward to seeing stars tonight away from city light pollution.

When Ms 18 agreed that silo art would make a good road trip, it turned out that she had no idea what a silo was. Not metaphorically or as 30 m of concrete. She is blown away! We have seen 6 of these amazing works of public art today. This is Nullawil, by Smug.

In Bendigo today, and the #bendigoGallery is always worth a visit. Textile art.

Ms 18 has finished her first year university exams and chooses to celebrate with a road trip - with her Mum (me). She'll clock up some more of those 120 hours practice needed before she can attempt the drivers' license test...and we will be taking in part of the #siloarttrail (is that a hashtag?).

Sewing class this week. It’s a “floppy pot” made from two small pieces of gorgeous Japanese printed duck (heavy cotton) from the scrap bin and a bold lining from the same bin. Christmas vibes.

On Tuesday I go to sewing class (learning to use a sewing machine, which is a skill that I didn’t acquire along the way but better late than never) and once a month that is followed by knitting night. It’s a great day!

Went to check on my crocheted Lorenz manifold b/c I was nearby. The space had been renovated and it was gone! 🤯 Thank you so much to the person who squashed it into a storage space because they thought it was probably special to someone. It’s a sad sight but at least I have it.

I’m accepting EOIs until November 9. Very nice submissions so far but room for more.

So I decided to make the labels for the artworks in the exhibition of mathematical art at the Australian Mathematical Society conference...using LaTeX.
