HI. I'm a creature of the Internet who has been around for a long time. You may know me from my cartoony furry art, or my fursuit tutorial teaching efforts, VRC endeavors, or my hiking photos. I use bsky for enrichment. If you found me here & followed me you have to be nice to me, I'm sensitive.
An ink drawing of my fursona Matrices, done with a brushpen and fine tip pen on rough toothed paper. Matrices is a doggy with a large snout and folded back ears. The expression is sly and tongue is out. #art #furryart #furry My furona Matrices as a fursuit now! A selfie is being taken. Next to another fursuit cosplay I built being worn by a friend, Growlithe the pokemon. Matrices has soft grey fur, a grey nose, and green eyes. Many whiskers are featured as well. Growlithe is an orange and cream colored pokemon with a big pink tongue and grey eyes. #fursuit #cosplay A VRChat photo of my main avatar, colored by me of my coyote character. The base I use is by Skip4d. My coyote character is a brown and orange coyote with yellow eyes and cream colored markings. There is also audiolinked colors that I enjoy that make some parts look rainbow. The setting is a graffiti wall and I have painted a doggy in the spraypaint system there. I am in the foreground pointing and taking a selfie. #vrchat #vrc This is a typical scene and setting for the hikes I enjoy going on frequently. Rocky coastline and scraggly trees with moss and lichen. For these I often post only with emoji because the photos should speak for themselves. I live in the pacific northwest and live near many parks and enjoy hiking all the time and finding the deepest moss that I could encounter as a goal. #hiking #pnw #outdoors

Also depending on the avatar model version i know there's 1 out there that has a copy of the vrcsdk itself & will break stuff SO bad if its imported over the top in a project. I kinda wonder if its the case(Im just speculating). Either way look thru that import list & uncheck items as needed!
matrices.bsky.social
If you have questions or need more screenshots to help let me know. I can also help thru telegram if you find me as Matrices there.

These simply need unchecked & not imported. If later turns out you unchecked something you needed, just open your unitypackage again & be selective on what it imports. Generally you're the one choosing & installing the newest shader version &any helper tools you like Before the avatar file goes in.
matrices.bsky.social
When you install your Avatar's files, carefully go through the import list of what it is installing. If its putting a "helper tool" like pumkin, or a shader like Poiyomi especially if it has things that arent showing up as "new" its overwriting something! I think this is what's causing you anguish.
matrices.bsky.social
Here are examples of project-breaking things included in a Unitypackage from an avatar creator by accident: Old Pumkin avatar tools version, this will break a project. Uncheck this on import! Also here is an example of a Shader that WILL break stuff. Com.poiyomi.toon is an old version!
Pumkin avatar tools should never be imported into a new unityproject in this way Shaders should never be included in a avatar package in this way, this breaks it!

Some makers call the Material a "shader" but there is a difference here. This is the material that is for an avatar it references a shader that you want to keep up to date. Here is another example of that.
A folder titled "Shaders" from a Bento model project. These are .mat files, these are Materials, not Shaders.
matrices.bsky.social
Some are OK to include, such as the locked shader data for a Material. Here is a screenshot of that.
An Optomized shaders folder from a meelo avatar project.

Oh! uh oh! DO NOT let the avatar install the files for the shader for you. You want control over that!!! that is probably part of the problem ahh. oops! You might be installing the correct shader, then letting the avatar package break your install with a very very old version. (continued)
matrices.bsky.social
Are you using a .unitypackage version of the shader? or the creator companion one? There may be a bug in an older .unitypackage version to rule out by just using the newest via CC: www.poiyomi.com/download#met...

Also make sure all other avatars are hidden in the scene OR make sure the correct one is selected in the vrcsdk dropdown (top left). Sometimes it will select an incorrect one. Hiding the rest that may be in your scene will make sure its focused on 1 thing, your new freshly scripted avatar.
Selected avatar is shown in the top left. In my dropdown I only have 1 thing, and it is named "Empty"

Do not re-add any existing blueprints, let it generate a new blueprint for you if you do get to the point of success. You can automate the re-setup process with the unity addon: pumkin avatar tools, but don't let it copy a blueprint from any reference avatar.
matrices.bsky.social
Slightly extreme, but at this point you probably need this: Make a copy of the avatar as a backup to reference. Remove the vrchat SDK, and the Blueprint ID scripts. Click the 3 dots, remove component. Then re-add the VRC Avatar descriptor back. It should be blank. re-set it up from your reference.
Click the three dots in the top of the corner. Remove component. You need to remove this first to successfully remove the blueprint id script. Next remove pipeline manager script. Now re-add VRC avatar descriptor and set it back up from scratch. Sorry.

I believe there is a fix in a newer version of the vrchat sdk that runs on unity 2022.3.22.f1. you will need to update both your unity and vrcsdk. The newer sdk removes the 'other users blueprint' it is telling you about after printing the error. Running old versions may be hindering you sadly.

Idk how often ppl use my Public avatar edits, but I updated this Coyote today to the new Warrens Fast Fur v5 shader (There is still a toggle if you liked v4), and it now has light volumes support! I also added a "gesture lock" button for those folks who like those.

vrchat.com/home/avatar/...
A close up of the new fur shader on the face, being gently lit from below. The animal is a tan and orange coyote. The eyes are hueshifted green and a black nose and whiskers are prominent. #furry #vrchat #vrc #publicavatar A coyote warms itself near a glowing coleman lantern, the whole creature is lit up brightly by the cast light. A carved pumpkin is strewn nearby. This is showing the light volume support, as this lantern casts a point light volume. This is the same animal but not lit by the light. This is showing off the old v4 version of the shader, which is still something users can toggle to if they miss it.

I was interested in learning more about @bedm0nster.bsky.social's Sony thing with the eye tracking when he was talking about it!! But it otherwise seems like .. yeah. Idk what's out there hahaha.

Good news desktop & mobile phone users: I made a switch you can turn on a weird door with. This weird door (visible just to you) is a teleport to the top of the hole. Carry things through it! This will help for accessibility, and you can squirrel away the pickup items wherever you want now!
A screenshot of a light switch highlighted in blue against a rock wall. It says "Teleport door for desktop & mobile users on / off (local)" this enables a weird door that destop and mobile phone users can walk through. This isn't visible to VR users, you don't need it! Its not for you.
