hello Bluesky! this is my game, You Have To Climb Out.

It's my first full #gamedev project, made over 6ish months earlier this year, and is out now on Steam 🐸
mattgoode.bsky.social
definitely steam at least! if everything goes as planned, i want to try to have a demo for february's next fest!

it feels so good just testing out new platforming levels/mechanics and just haphazardly slapping down notes to make a neat little bop

im really excited for what this game looks like in a few months. i think it could be an awesome submission for the February Next Fest 😈

any recommendations for sites that manage posting lil clips to tiktok/insta/shorts on a schedule?

i'd like to start accounts for SongRunner but all the overhead of scheduling on each platform has deterred me in the past

my brother it is called "staccato" and it means the notes are very short and thus the platforms you create are also quite short

new levels coming soon to SongRunner 😈😈

a new world means i gotta make a new song and instrument to go with it too hmmmmm

having a really weird issue with OBS recording my screen upside down and i found a troubleshooting conversation on reddit from someone with the same issue that really made me giggle

finished silksong today with 100% completion. absolutely phenomenal what team cherry was able to cook. i do think the game needs some difficulty options, but if you can manage without them, theres such a wonderfully weird world waiting to be explored. one of my all time favorites without a doubt.

lmaooo i dont think theyre too hard!!! i did like... a good BRISK run of a level and then added a little bit of time. but like, ive also been staring at these levels for two months now sooo

i didnt know how badly i needed this godot 4.5 feature oh my god
screenshot of a feature from godot 4.5 called "mute game toggle", description reads: Debugging can be tedious, especially if it exposes the developer to the same music over and over. One could turn off the speakers entirely, but that’s not really practical, is it?

To keep everyone’s sanity, we introduced the new mute game toggle, located in the Game view.

May your ears enjoy these new opportunities of quietude.

been spending like.. idk a couple weeks in a row on just menus and UI, and dont get me wrong it's satisfying seeing it slowly come together, but gosh it's not quite as exciting as building out new game mechanics and design.

but hey, i think it looks pretty acceptable

the main menu for SongRunner, showing a maroon background with a tab container in the center of the screen on a level-select menu, with other tabs for options and info/credits. some levels are disabled because they haven't been reached yet. some levels are complete showing a star or checkmark icon depending on the completion time.
mattgoode.bsky.social
not even just the map but the screen transitions too 😭 this is so cool

what do the buttons on the bowser phone do

sometimes when i write an email for work i have two things to say, so i write

"[first thing]

additionally, [second thing]

thanks,

matt"

and the number of times that people ONLY answer [second thing] absolutely kills me oh my god

definitely, it's so dense with secrets that you're just unknowingly passing by

silksong, blue prince, and inscryption manage to pull off this absolutely mindblowing concept where the player simply does not understand the full scope of the game even after many hours of playing
mattgoode.bsky.social
oh thank you thats a nice and easy little tweak, i could do that

small #gamedev or #ui question - is the symbol for the tab key (arrows left and right below) pretty universally recognizable? i really prefer the symbol over putting the key with the word "tab" on it but now im second-guessing how understandable it is.

i had to replace a part in my fridge that required turning off the water in the back which had VERY CLEAR on/off positions. i set it to off.

water was still on, got water all over the kitchen 🙃 but i still replaced the part so it was a small w

decided im gonna be a silent protagonist from now on

silksong took several extremely talented developers and artists 7 YEARS to make

dont try to copy it, dont be discouraged by its success, dont be afraid of its generously low price tag, just make your own (small) thing and be proud of it

i find myself wanting to revisit NPCs and towns in silksong just to check up on how everyone's doing after not being there for a while and the payoffs have been really surprising. keeping this vague but i was really impressed to return to a certain area and see a funeral in progress.
mattgoode.bsky.social
huh silksong really was worth the wait
