Painter will be on very little, which would allow them to be more aggressive in getting a bat or two
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
Trea has a full NTC so he’s only traded if he says so
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
I mean we just watched them have most of that rotation above in a postseason and still lose cause of the bats
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
If they resign Ranger they’re likely trading either Luzardo or Painter. I just don’t see a world where they can put resources into 5 big SP deals and still figure something out in the lineup

Even the dodgers only have two big SP deals. The rest are smaller contracts/prospects
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
Ah nevermind you’re not taking it seriously
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
Wouldn’t it take a lot to get him if the mariners even want to do that? Feels like you’d be getting rid of your younger guys who could play soon for a young guy who could play soon.

I guess it feels like a hard sell if the lone changes are Crawford and one right handed outfielder cause it feels like Crawford, Bohm, Stott, JT, and Marsh all play better hitting 7th or lower yet two have to hit 5th and 6th
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
So we thinking Crawford CF, marsh/Kemp in RF and new LFer? And then a new 3B for the lineup changes
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
Oh. First time I’ve heard Crawford in CF honestly. Seems like most have said it’s bad idea
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
Think he likely is the RFer if he’s kept and Crawford becomes your LFer, only negative is there’s likely no good CFers to bring in
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
Yeah right now Bohm and Marsh are probably your easiest changes. If they’re flexible with Millers position you could probably just sign Bregman there. Think with Marsh I’m fine if he stays, but it means they need to find a true right handed hitting full time outfielder
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
I think you either have to risk it or just not use him and move him. I personally just don’t have alot of faith in that outfield if it happens and still think if you want to change things in the lineup, you need to change 2 or 3 of the outfield spots
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
Well then maybe you just go with Marsh/Kemp-Bader-Crawford next year, little worried about the pop there though
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
I mean Walker is your #5 right now even if Painter starts with the team

We can only count right now on Sanchez-Luzardo-Nola-Walker being with the team

Which is why I’d like a veteran in there too cause if we need to wait on both wheeler and painter like you say, Walker is your #4
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
I don’t mind platoons cause I’m all for the Stott/sosa platoon staying. Right now one of the platoons in the outfield is gone and likely replaced by Crawford. I like Marsh, but he’s also one of the few guys it seems you can change and try to upgrade on with someone who’s more full time
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
I think if you can go into the year with Walker being your #6 it’s just more beneficial. He got 21 starts this year only because Ranger missed a month, Nola missed 3, wheeler missed 2. If he’s your 5 initially then he’s likely getting 30+
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
Have a feeling if Alonso is signed it’s a Kyle replacement and not a Harper moves off first situation
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
I think they replace Ranger with a 1 year veteran type stop gap. Maybe like a Merrill Kelly? Allows you to go Sanchez-Luzardo-Nola-Kelly/FA-Painter initially and then figure it out when/if Wheeler returns while also having Taijuan in a similar role as this year and a few guys in AAA for depth
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
I guess if the miller plan is more leaning to SS then maybe you try to get Bregman (would be another rough contract to have with his age) and then Trea eventually moves to 2B maybe if Stott doesn’t work out in 2026
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
I really think the only true big change they can make is an entirely new outfield, that avoids platoons. Cut Nick, trade Marsh. Probably need Crawford to be a CFer though cause CF just sucks in baseball and then find a way to get two corner outfielders who can hit both right and left handers
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
I struggle to figure out what they actually do with the lineup outside of Crawford getting a full time spot. Think Jt and Kyle are necessary resigns, think they aren’t in the Kyle Tucker competition, think they won’t bring in a new 3B cause Bohm is an easy placeholder for Miller
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
I think change is necessary but at the same time that change will likely be with internal young players who need time to acclimate to the majors so it wouldn’t shock me if they’re 85-86 win team next season
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
It feels like for them to have a chance they’ll need some big changes to everything around those guys cause Wheeler id guess misses a few months, Painter might need more time at AAA, we know Harper will miss a month or so when his wrist flairs back up, Turner is getting hamstring injuries now too
mattiebuddy.bsky.social
I think it’ll be a few years before we see them in the post season again, which is ok. It’ll take some time for the new guys to figure things out while the older ones start leaving
