Five years ago, I started taking photos of things people had dropped on the hiking trail. I’ll be showing them at Gallery Rustico in Koenji this week, as part of a group show organised by @mattschley.com. Open 6-11pm. Stop by if you’re in the area.

Curious about how Scarlet did over the weekend, but I guess we won't get the numbers until tomorrow since it's a holiday.

My thoughts on Mamoru Hosoda’s latest.
Mamoru Hosoda’s “Scarlet” shows what hybrid animation can do: fluid battles, detailed facial expressions and a Shakespearean narrative painted on vast digital landscapes.
Mamoru Hosoda’s ‘Scarlet’ takes on ‘Hamlet’ with bold visual departure
The Oscar-nominated director re-imagines the Shakespearean tale as an animated quest through the afterlife.

I was reminded today that the second Gundam Hathaway film is coming out in January. GOOD.

Finally caught the Chainsaw Man movie. Pretty good. Final battle suffers from "gravity loses meaning and they fight in the sky, where you can't tell what's going on" syndrome. But it was cool how much of the film _wasn't_ action scenes.

I encourage anyone who's ever had a good time in Koenji to add their name to this petition. Neighborhood planning should prioritize those who live in and enjoy a place, not people who want to drive cars through it.

Saw Sho Miyake’s Two Seasons, Two Strangers for the second time yesterday. Simple on the surface but a lot going on underneath.

I saw an early screening of an upcoming anime film, and I was like, "the music in this in great," and the credits rolled and it was Kenji Kawai, and I was like, "makes sense."
I pooled money with friends to buy a rare, overpriced DVD of a film featuring one of Kenji Kawai’s earliest soundtracks, and I was like, “the music in this is great,” and then I remembered why we bought it in the first place, and I was like, “makes sense.”
I was watching The Red Spectacles, and I was like, “the music in this is great,” and then the director's Q&A mentioned it was Kenji Kawai, and I was like, “makes sense.”

I don't think there's ever been a more atmospheric anime film than Patlabor 2.

Nice, a bunch of Katsushito Ishii films (including Redline!) getting screenings. Bummer there's no Taste of Tea, though.

It's hard to keep up with all the classic anime being rereleased in Japan right now. Patlabor 1 and 2, Perfect Blue, Angel's Egg, Ghost in the Shell, Memories, some Eva stuff... anything else?
