New Schlock Pit, and I’m back bangin’ my David DeCoteau drum again —

Some words on the maestro’s wonderfully weird erotic thriller, DEADLY EMBRACE (1989):

There’s some good stuff in there but it’s an absolute mess as a whole.

Hooper is part of the series’ half-arsed, somewhat smug meta-commentary on Gein’s influence on Psycho, Chain Saw Massacre, and pop culture. Unsuccessful but bold and interesting to say the least.

For all its flaws, the fact Monster: The Ed Gein Story gives us Tobe Hooper as an actual character is wild and I’ll defend it to the hilt because of that.

Random sartorial musings:

• Fred Perry is elite but I wouldn’t be seen dead in their footwear.
• All black Champion t-shirts turn to rags after one wash.
• Fila hoodies bobble and pill quickly; their sweatshirts are better.
• Adidas batters Nike all day long.
