Em 27 de agosto, Nelson Ananias Filho, coordenador de Sustentabilidade da Confederação da Agricultura e Pecuária do Brasil, foi um dos convidados a falar numa audiência pública sobre o Plano Clima convocada pela Comissão de Agricultura e Reforma Agrária do Senado. Com um meio-sorriso, indicativo de ironia, ele olhou para um gráfico que mostrava as emissões de gases de efeito estufa no Brasil. O maior volume cabia à pecuária e à agricultura, incluindo o efeito do desmatamento para a abertura de pastos e plantações. “Só de batermos o olho num gráfico desses é encontrar os responsáveis pelo desmatamento no Brasil e, quem sabe, no mundo”, disse. “Essa realocação de emissões impacta diretamente no setor agropecuário em curto prazo, porque vamos entrar num período de conferência das partes [a COP30] na qual o setor agropecuário entra como o maior emissor do país e, quem sabe, do mundo”, repetiu. “Em curto prazo o impacto na imagem é muito grande”, queixou-se. De fato – e não há nada de irônico nisso –, Ananias Filho não estava errado: só seis países, incluindo o Brasil, superam as emissões do “agro” brasileiro.

O Brasil sabe mais do que aplica. Ignorar evidências é desperdiçar oportunidades de promover o desenvolvimento.O Brasil é um país continental, diverso e de grande potencial, mas ainda marcado por desigualdades profundas e desafios estruturais que atravessam gerações. Apesar de avanços recentes, dados de 2023/2024 do IBGE mostram que mais de 25% da população vive na pobreza e o País ainda enfrenta alta desigualdade de renda. A mensagem é clara: para superar a pobreza e promover a equidade, não basta gastar. É preciso gastar melhor.

At no point does Dawson tell Ebbutt what to write, but his letter leaves no doubt that the editorial viewpoint of the Times had become more positive about Hitler. Ebbutt later wrote that 'the very few Englishmen' in Germany who were warning about what was going to happen 'were gradually edged out by the highest bigwigs in Great Britain, who had convinced themselves that they knew more than the man on the spot'. In what he wrote for print he didn't criticise the Times except by implication, but in conversation he was much more forthright. William Shirer, an American correspondent in Berlin, wrote in his diary that Ebbutt 'complained to me in private that the Times does not print all he sends, that it does not want to hear too much about the bad side of Nazi Germany, and apparently has been captured by the pro-Nazis in London. He is discouraged and talks of quitting.'

Palaver told me he wasn't entirely sure.
"There's a tension between those two things, and in some ways he goes along with both of them," he told me. "It's a good strategy, if you have the means-to have something at stake on all the sides." In other words, maybe the billionaire is hedging his bets—investing heavily in both the katechon and the one-world, totalitarian Antichrist.
But to understand why Thiel may be willing to take that risk, Palaver says you need to first understand that he's human. "What I've observed are traces of deep fear," he told me.
"Fear of death, fear of terrorism." It all comes down to a lack of trust and a craving for security, Palaver suspects. "There are so many cases where he expresses fears and concerns and a need for protection," Palaver says. "And if your main thing is seeking protection, you play with fire."
