I wrote an epic read about how the Italian mafia expanded in Germany via the pizza restaurant, and how this is linked to a global rise of organised crime.

Downside of electric cars is loads of different companies running the charging points, each with their own annoying system (a bit like parking charges). Should all be nationalised.

Policy as PR, politics of cowardice and opinion polls
Good thread this. I think people are much smarter than they are given credit for, and they intuit that the government’s actual view is “what can we say to make these people shut up about immigration?”
Which then takes you back into the familiar territory of pleasing nobody - winding up the left for a policy that potentially doesn’t make that much difference in practice

Would it be journalistically ‘ethical’ for the BBC to use the license fee to pay for a hitman to take out Trump?
November 15, 2025 at 12:42 PM
Turns out the accusations against the BBC were mostly a stitch up, trumpeted by a biased newspaper.

What gained traction was the Trump Panorama edit, which someone should have got fired for, that they didn't made the initial mistake worse.

BBC bias? The Prescott memo falls well short of the standards of impartiality it demands
The Prescott memo contained no research questions or objectives, method, sample, time frame or, crucially, analytical framework for examining output.

Good news. Time to remove the Tory saboteurs from the BBC. Now the government needs to repair the damage caused to the BBC by the Tories - increase funding, hire top journalists to re-organise, hire more journalists to boost investigations.

Robbie Gibb is the Tory poison at the heart of the BBC. It needs extracting.
Nearly two years ago, I wrote about the extraordinary influence of former Tory spin doctor Sir Robbie Gibb on the BBC. It's still a helpful backgrounder for what's going on now. New readers start here: www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/media/...
