Midwest American nerd living in London to work on AI safety @ Conjecture.

I studied physics to discover the beauty of the universe, not realizing the eldritch horrors that I would discover as a result.
ControlAI has just launched our new campaign pushing for a ban on superintelligence! We've gathered some big-name endorsements and more are on the way. Check it out at campaign.controlai.com

Honored to have been interviewed for
@washingtonpost.com!

While they missed my overall point about how GPT-5 is still very much "on trend" towards superintelligence *despite* no step-change, it's great to see mainstream media casually discussing the dangers of superintelligent AI.

The most vile "we must risk ASI" argument is we're "doomed" without.

When you've given up on humanity and have no vision for the future beyond "summon a demon to see what happens" it's no wonder you end up pro-extinction.

Traitors to humanity should be kept far from the wheel.

This is a critical issue we cannot afford to ignore, despite the chaos around the world right now. Contacting your representatives is quick and easy, send them an email today!
16 MPs and 87% of Brits agree that the development of superintelligent AI should require safety guarantees, 60% believe it should be banned outright.

If you're among this overwhelming majority, demand that your representatives take action. Contact them today!

Exclusive: Brits Want to Ban ‘Smarter Than Human’ AI
A new poll shows the British public wants far stricter AI rules than its government does.

@anthropic.com is not the "AI Safety Lab"

CEO Dario Amodei is now explicitly calling for a global US takeover via superhuman AI systems Recursively Self-Improving far beyond human capabilities.

This is unbelievably dangerous. We cannot control such systems. Humans do not "win" this arms race.

I work in AI safety, anyone have any questions about what's happening?
January 3, 2025 at 4:27 AM
I've yet to hear anyone present a vision of the future where superintelligence and humans coexist that doesn't rely on the magic vibe that humans are somehow cosmically "special"

Visiting family and friends over the holidays right now. Saying goodbye before heading back to London has a weight to it that wasn't there before. People really aren't even aware of the singularity happening before our eyes.

Sam Altman, Meta, and Amazon are all "donating" $1M to Trump's inauguration fund.

I love blatant public bribery, oops I mean "lobbying" by those that are trying to prevent anyone from regulating their attempt to make an uncontrollable artificial god that they admit might kill us all.

I like how the AI safety people spent 20 years discussing how we would carefully build AI on an airgapped island and only release it on 100% certainty it was safe and now reality is "let's build literally skynet, we'll even call it skynet, it's going to be so cool guys"
Wait for it, 4 companies in December have pledged to build a Skynet of AI to upgrade the U.S. Military.

These four companies? Palantir, Anduril, OpenAI and Anthropic.

The broligarchy will automate the Military with AI systems and an executive AI that will control a robot-human hybrid forces.

People not elected to government should not have the power to reshape the government, especially people whose obscene wealth depends on the government functioning a certain way.

This is not a hot take.

It's just plain common sense.

It's very isolating working on preventing human extinction from AI. Whenever someone asks me what I do for work, I get to flip the coin on whether I convince them we're all going to die in the next few years, or they decide I'm crazy. Not the best career for building relationships.

It's crazy to me how what is coming into reality NOW is scarier and more effective than the fictional drone swarms of COD: Advanced Warfare's based in 2054.

We can't allow AI to take over warfare, lest we yearn for the days of comparatively humane chemical weapons.

The quest for AGI isn’t hype, people working in AI really do believe they are building it in the immediate future - and government and media don’t understand the impact this will have on the world, says @shakeelhashim.com in conversation with @tomrachman.bsky.social

This is what the government's AI data advantage looks like holy shit.

TL;DR: Pokemon Go has been a massive CIA data gathering project all along for building "large geospatial models" mapping the interior and exterior spaces of the world to cm precision in many places.

As an American who just moved to London 3 months ago, I must say I severely underestimated the degree to which the memes about how sunless and miserable this place is are actually representative of its reality.

I talk a lot about AI (because it probably kills us before climate change), but it's really sad to me that AI is dominating the nuclear power discussion. It really is one of the glaringly obvious paths to significantly reducing our carbon output.
