#HamOnt Happy Thanksgiving, Hamilton!

A time to reflect, give thanks, and look out for one another.

A small act of kindness: checking in on a neighbour or lending a hand - can go a long way.

Together, we will keep our city strong, caring, and connected.

#HamOnt Please see my statement regarding the passing of Jim Bradley

Jim Bradley’s passing is a tremendous loss for his community and for our province. Over the course of his remarkable career, Jim devoted his life to public service, always guided by integrity, compassion, and a deep commitment to making life better for the people he represented. His decades of leadership left an indelible mark on St. Catharines, Niagara, and Ontario as a whole.

My heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends, and colleagues. His legacy of service and dedication will not be forgotten.

#HamOnt Please see my Statement regarding the removal of speed cameras.
“My top priority is the safety of Hamiltonians. That’s why I must respectfully disagree with the Premier’s decision to cancel speed cameras. Along with Ontario’s Chiefs of Police, SickKids Hospital, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), and many concerned Hamiltonians, I believe speed cameras are a proven tool that save lives.

AMO has been clear: Automated Speed Enforcement is an evidence-based tool that improves road safety, and municipalities across Ontario are calling on the province to continue working with us to ensure communities can use it effectively.

Here in Hamilton, speed cameras are part of our Vision Zero Road Safety Action Plan to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries. We don’t abuse this tool - every dollar generated is reinvested into our Strategic Road Safety Program, funding improvements like curb bump-outs, advanced pedestrian signals, and speed humps.

Revenues are already down this year compared to last, showing enforcement is working and drivers are slowing down. But the reality remains: speeders are breaking the law and putting people at risk, and that’s never acceptable.

Hamiltonians deserve safe streets, and speed cameras are one of the proven tools that help us get there.” Mayor Andrea Horwath

#HamOnt Please see the Statement below regarding Mayor Horwath stepping down from the Police Services Board.
As a result of scheduling conflicts, I’ve decided to step down from the Police Services Board. With strong Council and community voices in place, this is the right time for another member of council to give the role the focus it deserves, especially as the Board begins its important planning work. I’m grateful to my fellow members for their commitment and remain supportive of the Board’s efforts to build community safety in Hamilton. - Mayor Andrea Horwath

#HamOnt Please see the below Statement on the passing of Leo Gerard
“I’m saddened to learn of the passing of Leo Gerard. Leo’s life was defined by his unwavering commitment to working people - from his beginnings in Sudbury to leading the United Steelworkers on an international stage, he never stopped fighting for fairness, dignity, and justice.

Here in Hamilton, where steel is part of our very identity, Leo’s impact was especially profound. He stood shoulder-to-shoulder with workers, ensuring their voices carried weight in boardrooms, legislatures, and across borders. His advocacy went beyond wages and working conditions - he fought for safer workplaces, stronger communities, and a more equitable society.

On behalf of the City of Hamilton, I extend my deepest condolences to Leo’s family, friends, union sisters and brothers, and colleagues. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of workers and leaders alike.”
