April 2020: My Cook County colleagues and I propose a COVID emergency cash fund and are met with chuckles and eye rolls. After 6 months of pestering we get a small pot of money.

November 2025: Cook Co funds the first permanent guaranteed income program in the country.

Exactly why we need policies like guaranteed income that unrig the system, and deliver the economic conditions for freedom and dignity for all.
Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

Sacramento remains on track to launch a first ever city-led guaranteed income program for foster youth.

The program is expected to provide monthly cash payments of at least $750 starting next July.
Sacramento income program may guarantee $1K monthly to foster youth
Requirement will include for youth to be 18 to 24 and income to not exceed 200% of the federal poverty level — about $31,000 per year.
