My New Year's resolution was to not buy another fly rod. I've bought 3 since. N+1 is perfectly funny!

Fall highlight (a few years back). My fish handling in this photo back then is to be avoided with what we know today. An example of how to never handle a fish. Keep them wet (always).

26" red side on 3 wt trout spey.

Trout spey in the PNW and AK can be epic. Just another method that works for soft hackles, swimming streamers and tumbling flesh flies. I really enjoy swinging for trout. Good luck!

Hi Nabil. I'd like for you to stop including my Bluesky account (

Pre-European salmon runs in the Columbia basin were est. ~16 million. This year we saw 1.6 million salmon... A 'good' year. Salmon are getting smaller w/ adverse ocean conditions. I don't think people know how much beauty in this place we have lost.

My favorite function for the legacy Bird site was getting information during breaking news. During the Earthquake/Tsunami today I see we have a ways to go here. I'm sure it'll will be addressed in time.

In Oregon it's time to start winter steelheading! Will be the main event for the next 6 months. You can reduce wild stealhead mortality to 3-5% by fishing w/ barbless flies, limit handling and keeping them wet (always).

My dad always took my brother and I fishing. It was awesome. I was so exited I could barely sleep the night before. That's him cleaning a fish behinds us. Me returning the favor 40 years later.

Launching a wood skiff from the rim at Crater Lake in 1903. Seems hard.

It's always a great time to learn to fly fish! Keep at it. There's so much to learn from the history, fly patterns, technique, meditation on the river & connection to healthy ecosystems. Nicely done! I'm still learning too.
