I have many normal thoughts and feelings and parasocial friendships with ghosts. 5'11" Lestat truther. The most terrifying kind of preternatural monster: a person who liked Blood Canticle. (she/her)

Making a proper pinned post that I can put stuff under! See this thread for book cover redesigns I do for fun, stuff I've written, and whatever else feels pin-able:

You are well advised to stay away, I'm not even talking on here about some of the worst stuff I've seen in comment sections today, it's ridiculous. I'm not even looking for these comment sections algorithms keep giving them to me against my will.

I am hopeful that (unlike some people in the fandom) the show understands the value in having a person of color play a really well written nuanced character who is also terrible. I love characters who are nuanced and terrible, I would like more actors to have the opportunity to play them!

Surprise ningenfucker I'm always thinking about Death Note, that's my secret, that's what's wrong with me!

Anyway I feel terrible today which is why I can't keep off the internet, but the last thing I want to say about Akasha is that ever since I once compared her to Light Yagami I can't get past it, it's a great comparison, they're very similar characters. And you can trust me on this, I am an expert.

There is something about the energy of the scene where he's burning down the townhouse in the movie where it's just like, "well I guess it's time to do this again!"
mckatkat.bsky.social
By which I mean they call her that as an insult, it is not a cool title that she has, she has a cool title she wants people to call her that they don't! She was called the Queen of the Damned in a threat by a witch!
mckatkat.bsky.social
She's also literally not even the Queen of the Damned, which is something I also forget but is very funny 😂
mckatkat.bsky.social
There are also a lot of people very excited to see her be the monarch of the vampires, and maybe it's just me but that is not a context in which I would be hyping up Akasha. She was a tyrannical megalomaniac genocidal crazy person? She's an interesting character but... yeah!

The problem with glancing at random lines from the books that include physical character descriptions is that often people who are not more familiar with the series are missing the context that Anne Rice vampires do not look particularly human, they look really weird, not super normal.
mckatkat.bsky.social
I know for some reason people are confused about this, but Akasha is supposed to be white like paper, white like statues, white like #FFFFFF, when they say white in the books that is usually what they are talking about and I feel so insane all the time.
mckatkat.bsky.social
Akasha was born in Uruk 6,000 years ago and is an immortal vampire whose skin is the color white, like the literal color white, not flesh tone white people white. She's also fictional. She's also in books you can read to obtain this information.
mckatkat.bsky.social
Man a lot of people on the internet are authoritatively stating things about the character Akasha as written by Anne Rice today with a lot of confidence that is unearned! A reminder that you don't have to lie about what's in the books to think an adaptational decision is perfectly fine.
mckatkat.bsky.social
Lol yup it's mine- people keep re-sharing it and they don't know what post it's from, but it's from a Facebook post where she was asking about who would be a good Akasha and it's buried deep in the comments
mckatkat.bsky.social
I'm pretty sure I'm the one who took that damn screenshot of the Anne Rice comment about Akasha that I have seen all over the internet, and I am very proud to have provided people with such a mic drop in so many stupid arguments.

There is misinformation about the books I still see around the internet constantly that I know was from an older version of an article on the wiki. People should read the books- but people who have read them should have an accurate reference, and also, because people will just read the wiki instead.
mckatkat.bsky.social
Why do I care if the damn wiki is accurate or good? Well, because, as a new fan getting into the books, I wanted it to be accurate and good! Also, incognito browsing, this is the top result when you google basic stuff from the books:

The wiki is pretty old, and I am a pretty new presence on it- but I do hope it has improved a lot, and I'd love it to improve even more! There are some policy articles I've put together basically to describe how it's currently structured and some guidance, here's one on canon:
Vampire Chronicles:Canon
The Vampire Chronicles is a book series that has been adapted across several mediums, and has had multiple supplemental materials, including authorized books, published about its canon. Among changes ...

On The Vampire Chronicles wiki, there are different pages for the show vs the books. When you are adding a link, you can easily either choose the correct version, or search for the correct page! Characters and concepts not labeled otherwise are from the books.
mckatkat.bsky.social
Also, the way you add the links between pages is super easy! The style convention is that you add the link to the first instance of a mention of another page, but using this second mention to demonstrate how:

I always want to encourage more people to contribute to The Vampire Chronicles Wiki, but I know some people actually don't know how! Here is a tiny tutorial, you will need to make an account (which is just a vandalism protection thing), but super easy!

I am slightly annoyed with the way they are marketing it, not annoyed with the hypothetical show they are making, but that's the line I draw in my brain. It's hard not to let one affect the other. I've not seen the show yet.

Hey y'all did you know The Vampire Lestat is a very good book, actually?
mckatkat.bsky.social
A few people- a FEW people- seem very eager to inform of us of all the ways they are taking massive swings from the book. Which I'm sure is exciting to someone. Who doesn't like the book. Who is not me! You're bringing up my Mayfair Witches trauma, stop it!
mckatkat.bsky.social
See? Anti-hype creeps through- I should not watch interviews, for real. They are doing a very bad job marketing this season to the anxiety monster in my head, specifically, which I did already predict. Doing a great job marketing it to other people, but people not quite like me.

The big problem with taking narcolepsy medication is you have to make a bunch of calls about whether or not you think you will be able to go back to sleep, because it makes it impossible to go back to sleep but doesn't really necessarily guarantee waking you up. Today no medicine, no sleep, bad!

It was a lovely day outside today and I was planning to go to the park, unfortunately my body decided to curse me away from ever being able to go back to sleep because I committed the crime of staying up slightly too late last night, so instead I was a lump! Ah well, tomorrow also exists.
