So close! Just ~$1300 left to post her bond tomorrow (and keep @psabortionfund.bsky.social’s abortion funding line open in July — our struggles are intertwined, and the money has to come from somewhere)!

Pssst 🗣️ They’re using abortion to challenge EMTALA (which legally requires ERs to provide stabilizing care regardless of your ability to pay) while kicking 16 million people off health insurance, closing hospitals, and ending medical school loans during a primary care shortage. They want you dead.

NEW: The Senate bill "defunding" Planned Parenthood is just one front in the war to ban abortion without explicitly banning it.

The right is vying to cut off federal funds, shutter clinics, restrict abortion pills, and let protestors terrorize abortion seekers—and put abortion entirely out of reach
The Plot to Effectively Ban Abortion Nationwide Is Unfolding Before Our Eyes
Lawmakers and activists are working to shutter clinics and restrict access to abortion pills. The end result would be catastrophic.

I hope it’s clear to everyone that this budget bill quite literally defunds every social assistance program in the country to increase funding for ICE, defense contractors, and millionaires.

Babes I’m gonna be honest we got people being disappeared by ICE and having their corpses used as incubators so I could not possibly care less about however Sabrina Carpenter wants to consensually sexualize herself

Getting rid of HIPAA and EMTALA would mean 1) the state can fully surveil healthcare [esp. pregnancy, gender affirming care, overdoses] for criminalization, and 2) healthcare companies and the state have fully authority over who lives and dies. It’s all the white supremacist, eugenicist project.
mcmisoprostol.bsky.social
Pay attention to this. Abortion is under attack—but it’s also often a canary in the coal mine.

HIPAA *ALREADY* prohibited disclosing health info, just like EMTALA *ALREADY* required hospitals to provide emergency abortions. Biden just reiterated that. The GOP wants to upend HIPAA & EMTALA entirely.

BREAKING: U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk has issued a ruling striking down the 2024 Biden-era HIPAA rule protecting reproductive health information from disclosure to law enforcement investigators when it was legally obtained, such as in another state.

Illustration depicts a nighttime desert scene/surrealist painting by Mark Roger’s Art titled “The Astral Body.” Amid saguaros and a campfire area with a white horse tied up, a sort of vampiric-looking alien hovers in the air horizontally above a sleeping person with a cowboy hat over their face and emits a ray of light down toward text that says “chill the fuck out about abortion and trans people”

May Adriana Smith finally rest in peace. What Emory Hospital & Georgia have put her family through is unimaginable. It turns my stomach to see people say someone who died in February just “gave birth.”

You can donate to help Adriana’s family with the enormous medical bill and care of her sons here:

The Minnesota shooter reportedly had a hit list of almost 70 people, including abortion providers and abortion rights advocates.

Just this week, a House committee advanced a bill that would repeal a federal law protecting abortion clinics

Police found a hit list in suspect's car with nearly 70 different targets including abortion providers
From CNN's John Miller
Law enforcement found a hit list in the Minnesota suspect's car that contained nearly 70 names, a law enforcement official briefed on the matter told CNN.
The names included abortion providers, pro-abortion rights advocates, and lawmakers in Minnesota and other states, the official added.
Law enforcement also found a Father's Day card addressed to the suspect in a bag full of ammunition, the official said.
A second official briefed on the case echoed the targeting of abortion providers to CNN's Holmes Lybrand.

🚨NEW: @cbsnews.com reports ICE is arresting people who can't even legally be deported and holding them without enough food or water in a federal building BASEMENT in Los Angeles.

Families dutifully attending check-ins with ICE are being arrested and held for days, forced to sleep on the floor.
One attorney, Lizbeth Mateo, said ICE officials slated several of her clients for check-ins at the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building in downtown L.A. but when they showed up on Tuesday, they were detained and immediately escorted to the basement.

Mateo said a couple and their two children, one of whom is a U.S. citizen, spent the night in a room with no beds and limited access to food and water. Mateo said the father had previously been issued a stay of removal, barring him from deportation but he and his family were detained anyway. His wife was released Wednesday evening along with their children since she needed medical attention due to a high-risk pregnancy. He was still being detained early Friday, Mateo said.

This one is a must read, especially for folks still evolving on the urgent need to abolish family policing. One part of this infuriating story to highlight is that the only people who fundraised and provided material support to this teen and her baby…was abortion funds.

Hailey entered foster care when she was 2.

She got pregnant at 15, and after being denied an abortion, became determined to keep her baby from repeating the traumatic childhood she experienced.

But Hailey says the state has seemed just as determined to keep her from raising her baby. #moleg

No matter your status, you deserve access to care and support.

We know people have a lot of questions about their rights around both abortion and immigration.

That’s why @ineedana.bsky.social and us along with @immdefenseproject.bsky.social, created a guide: www.ineedana.com/blog/how-can...
A graphic for an I Need an A and If/When/How blog post, "How can my immigration status affect abortion access?" The background is a purple semi-transparent world map and in the right hand corner is an icon of two passports. At the bottom is a teal text box with the I Need an A logo and If/When/How logo.

I would also urge folks to think critically before using a fictional story about white women to describe the actual reproductive violence that Black women are experiencing and have been experiencing in this country for centuries.

Cannot recommend this essay by Sherronda J. Brown enough:
White Women In Robes
White feminism has tunnel vision, especially when it comes to reproductive rights.

I have not found a donation link to help Adriana’s family with the immense medical costs that this forced seven-month hospital stay and delivery will accrue, which they have noted is a growing burden. But I will be sure to post it if one is created and/or if Adriana’s family shares any action items.
mcmisoprostol.bsky.social
Adriana’s family has also expressed concerns that, even as a nurse at the same hospital, she did not receive adequate care that could have saved her life. The fact that abortion bans target and disproportionately impact Black folks is inseparable from the Black maternal health crisis.
