This season's current: Can we build a slow world?
#mentalhealth #mentalwellness
Mindfulness is the key to unlocking every day's peace.

Often, we are so distracted that we forget to breathe, and to take in the moments that make up the hours.

Next time you're overwhelmed, remember your breath. Be aware of it and let it guide you and calm you.

Mindful breathing helps us live slower lives.

A piece of wisdom on mindful breathing from Buddhist monk Pháp Linh is to practice awareness of the breath's existence in the background of your life.

Simply notice the breath being there, and observe how your mind becomes anchored to the present.

Routine can help us build the capacity to #StayPresent

Instead of worrying about the next step, having a roadmap for the day can provide a sense of calm and security, allowing the mind to stop reacting and start resting.

What are your tips for developing an effective & sustainable routine?

As part of my #SlowDown movement, I'm deactivating my Instagram and Facebook for all of March.

Social media has me chasing a dopamine hit that keeps me distracted from the present. I want to see how much more mindful I can be without it.

I'd like to share an incredible podcast, "The Way Out Is In", with the #mindfulness community.

Here's an episode related to our current focus on slowing down, where the hosts share wisdom and vulnerability in their own journeys of taking pause in their lives.

Staying present is the first step to relinquishing the illusion of control.

Slow down in your interactions with others.

Listen with intention, and to understand. Allow your partner to take their time to communicate. In turn, take your time to form your thoughts, and speak from the heart.

Don't let the world rush you through the things that make life worth living.

When it comes to #mindfulness practice, what are some of the toughest habits you've overcome or are in the process of overcoming?

There is a profound freedom in tapping into the present moment.

Today I experienced a moment of intense stress. I felt I had too much to do, and too little time to do it.

I started to make tiny mistakes, knock things over, and it was making me panic even more.

What was going on internally?

Building a slow world means bringing our consciousness into the present, and finding strategies to control the impulse to obsess over the past and future.

How do you find ways to live fully in the moment?

We desperately need to address the idea that endless productivity is a goal worth pursuing or virtuous.

When rest & play riddle us with guilt, we have steered off path. They are essential to our health & wellbeing.

How do we begin to reclaim our right to life outside productivity?

#Mindfulness helps us move more slowly. By building awareness of "habit energy", we can hijack the knee-jerk urgency we so often adopt, causing us to miss out so much of the joy of being alive.

For a long time the word 'slow' has had a negative connotation. But in this day and age where time has become a luxury, that appears to be changing.

Slowing down shouldn't be a luxury for the few. Building a slow world requires dismantling the barriers that make time a scarce resource.

Slowing down means moving more intentionally. Intentionality is the key to integrity, and integrity helps to build confidence and self-trust.

In a world built on manufactured urgency, choose to slow down.

#Mindfulness helps thoughts go from racing to strolling. In this world of constant overwhelm, it is a practice that can bring us from every corner of our mind into the present moment.

Our world is fast-paced, centered on urgency, and a constant pressure to be productive. It's like the "off" button has disappeared, & we're constantly asked to be plugged in - at work, in relationships, and community.

Is it possible for us to begin to build a "slow" world? What would it look like?
