The tunnel boring machine used to excavate the Annacis Water Supply Tunnel was launched in the City of Surrey in March 2024 and arrived in @newwestminster.bsky.social in August 2025.
Metro Vancouver has reached a major milestone on the Annacis Water Supply Tunnel project: tunnelling work is now complete!

We are now ready to start water main installation and valve chamber construction.

Temporary drinking water system adjustments will start mid-October, part of the Stanley Park Water Supply Tunnel Project. Some Vancouver, Richmond & Delta residents may notice turbidity for a few days, most likely in October & November. The water is safe to drink & will clear on its own.

Over the next few years, Metro Vancouver will restore areas impacted by the Second Narrows Water Supply Tunnel project in @cityofburnaby.bsky.social and the District of North Vancouver @dnv.org.

The project is expected to be completed in 2028.
Did you know? The tunnel boring machine used to excavate the Second Narrows Water Supply Tunnel was the first of its kind to ever be used in Canada.

It completed tunnelling in October 2021.
