Meteorologists must verify rain with extra sources of information. 'Ducting' is the likely cause here. When the lower atmosphere is very stable the radar beam may bend back towards the surface of the Earth. This can show a rain signal where there is no rain.

Eagle eyed radar watchers might have spotted something wrong in the radar over Auckland this morning. 🦅 The radar is a very useful tool, but data is often noisy.
