Today marks 3⃣9⃣ years since the Chornobyl nuclear disaster.

Yet the threat to nuclear safety has not passed.

Russia’s illegal seizure of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant endangers millions in Ukraine and across Europe.

This cannot be ignored.

Today Russia struck a residential area in Kryvyi Rih, killing at least 14 people, incl six children, injuring more than 50 others.

Russia seeks war, not peace & the attacks against civilians, incl children are brutal proof of it.

My condolences to the loved ones of the victims.

The ICC is a cornerstone of justice and accountability, essential for maintaining a rules-based global order.

Hungary's decision to withdraw from the Rome Statute is deeply concerning. We strongly urge Hungary to rethink this step for the betterment of international justice.

I welcome news from Ukraine & US talks in Jeddah, incl a proposal for interim ceasefire & US decision to resume military assistance, intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

It’s an important step towards a just & lasting peace in Ukraine.

The responsibility rests solely on Russia.

Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania & the UK had a video meeting today & the messages coming from London affirm that a critical majority of Europe is likeminded.

The next step should be a coalition of the willing to give military aid and security guarantees to Ukraine.

These two 24 Februaries have shaped our world.

With one, we stepped towards a more just rules-based world of coexisting sovereign states.

The other, we stepped back toward an age of empires.

If you prefer the former, history shows we must support Ukraine to defeat aggression.

Across our country today, Estonians will celebrate Independence Day with friends & family, watching the parade, and with good food and drink.

Also, as every day, many will continue to volunteer & donate in support of Ukraine, continuously inspired by their courage of resistance.

Russia chose 24 February, three years ago, to launch its full scale war to destroy the Ukrainian nation - and destroy our rules-based world.

It has failed.

That’s due to Ukraine’s will to fight, as well as their support from the international community.

Russia is an unreformed imperial power, proving repeatedly that it can’t be trusted.

In the absence of consequences, Moscow will disregard international law and prior agreements to continue pursuing its neocolonialist agenda.

Aggression, unpunished, emboldens more aggression.
mfaestonia.bsky.social
Many around the world stood with us when we were occupied.

Moscow failed to gain much international recognition for its forced annexation of us.

With your support, we showed Moscow’s occupation can be defeated & international law can prevail.

And so we now #StandWithUkraine.
