2025.119 (A-): NYT recommendation. Was hard to follow at times because the narrative bounced around a bit and not a story I’d normally gravitate to. But. Exceptional prose.

2025.118 (A-): I feel like I did a paper on Gauguin back in the day. Either in French class or Art class… Fascinating life and a worthwhile read. PG’s relationship with Van Gogh was especially interesting.

DIVINE EGYPT AT THE MET: I found it to be a thoughtfully curated set of artifacts and a nice brush up on Egyptian gods, major and minor; well worth the visit.

2025.100 (C-): I expected not to like this, but for the first few chapters I actually did. I was pleasantly surprised with some pretty interesting stories. Then it started to slip… and Geraldine Brooks’s sanctimonious section really killed it for me.

2025 BOOK #100 (A-): Regret to say this was my first Didion experience; I found it rewarding. Magnetic prose and a fascinating place/time (CA/1960’s) that I’ve investigated before in print, music, and film.

2025 BOOK #99 (B-): Although advertised as “unmaking US history,” I didn’t find that exactly. Certainly some thought provoking sections, especially around the Civil War, but perhaps augmenting instead of remaking. I was also bogged down a bit by prose reminiscent of a textbook.

THE MOUSETRAP @ ARVADA CENTER (B+): Generally well acted and entertaining. Certainly didn’t remember the ending from when I last saw it 40 years ago in the West End.

GREENSKY BLUEGRASS @ RED ROCKS (A-): Not a bluegrass aficionado; started listening to GB because Revival Brews often plays them. A musically & visually impressive show with gratifying improvisation, though like most bluegrass experiences, about 75% of the way through I was ready for something else.

𝐏𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: In the 90's, on ski trips, Dad would buy apple fritters at Safeway (with our $30 lift tickets). Consequently, fritters have a special place in my nostalgic heart; those were good fritters. But these? Insane. Perfect mix of texture, sweet, & a little salt. 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞: 𝐀+
