Therein lies a story. Oh, the things we had to study in our language classes, and the long wait to finally use them. From French classes, also wasted on me, I do remember the useful: Pas discute. Il y a beaucoup a faire. Tomorrow there will be much to analyze, and every day thereafter.
No need to grease the light poles. No drunks spotted trying to climb them. Due to the pleasant weather, no one throwing snowballs, either. We were very well behaved today, aside from a surfeit of scribbled expletives. Did see one sign in Latin, so that balances things out. Sic Semper Tyrannis!!!!
What you said. Nourishment, much appreciated by your listeners. I sincerely hope your management sees fit to let us continue to partake of this sustenance. So much is crumbling to dust around us. As Father David says, for our age group, perhaps we'll fight till the end of our lives to restore it.
Oh, the old days of shopping on foot and department store window displays. All destroyed by Jeff Bezos. It is stunning how diabolical his mission to quash all competition is. Not just bookstores, but every last merchandise business via his convoluted Amazon Basics scheme. Please stop using Amazon.
It has a long, long history. I remember a time when the ceiling leaked like crazy on rainy days and the whole place was run down because a greedy developer bought it and wouldn't do upkeep. But it survived, and was sold, and has been lively & much loved since. A win for the people and not the dev.
For so many years you could walk right in, no security checkpoint. The ranger on duty would give a lively talk and encourage you to touch it. Even longer ago, it was in the lobby of IH and equally accessible. That bell has traveled the world. So many stories it could tell us, even in its silence.
A less well know gem. You make a good point. It really is a richly rewarding place to visit for a few minutes. The quality of the design and execution is top notch. We just don't get public art of that caliber much anymore. Magical, indeed.
It was nice today, as we sat on Independence Mall after our walk down Market Street from City Hall, to see IH in the distance and feel that connection across the centuries. After the Young Rep. chat leak, we can reflect on how young many of those founding fathers were, guided by the elder statesman.
You're giving me a workout here. I had two years of Latin as a kid. Remember none of it, but at least occasionally look it up, like plus ultra. Bit ironic to have it pop up on a day like today. A welcome break from a flood of expletives. Kudos to those of you reaching for more creative slogans.
Phila: small groups of local police scattered here and there. Very relaxed. They looked quite bored (saw one guy stretch his arms and yawn, understandably). Didn't see any other officers, except one long string on bikes. Zero problems that I could see. All was calm, peaceful, relaxed, passionate.
I saw a sign today with this on it, written in careful script, held by a costumed woman. Wondered what it meant (now I am able to look it up). Very interesting meaning. Hope it becomes familiar catch phrase, though it needs splaining. Doubt the tyrant would ever be able to figure it out.
My head is swimming with which of the many chores I need to do today will be first. Recently, I was trying to enlist the help of a woman on a charity related project. She politely declined saying, "I just don't have the bandwidth for this now." I think we're all there. No bandwidth left.
It sounds like there will be a huge run on food pantries soon. Besides donating food, donate your time. Pantries can always use help with the logistics of sorting donations and distributing food. One local food bank we donate to says they are in particular need of baby formula.
When he was growing up in Delaware, he attended a fancy private school - Tower Hill. I'm sure the alum association is cringing about this. Actually, they've probably been cringing about him for years for all sorts of reasons. Also tried to pretend he lived in PA so he could run for senate. Lost.
I have the same doubts. Went to small local rally in our twp. Did not walk away feeling energized. There will be another one in the same spot, then everyone is spose to move on to the big city one. I plan to do that this time. I see it this way: ICE is rallying to scare us. NK rallies are biggggger.
Interesting to note that the head of the goon squad is anorexic. Look at her arm. Not an ounce of fat on it. In spite of her exercise regime, she does not look well. Wondering if the job and being in the spotlight every day is taking a toll on her.
I have my ballot filled in, waiting for Friday noon, first day to drop off ballot. btw, who designs the ballots? Can we have ballots where the party is printed in larger, more readable type? Granted, I've researched all names, know who I want to vote for, but not everyone does their homework...
Yesterday. Our county in PA has always done an excellent job of running vax clinics. Very nice people, very well organized. Free for all, both covid & flu. Dif places every year but available all over the county. Hats off to the church hosting the local one for opening their doors. Group effort!
Sign me up. btw, do you think his buddies standing dutifully at attention behind him go home with aching faces from having to stand there with a sh....eating grin all through the ordeal? Or do they just use Vaseline on their teeth and load up on Tylenol latter?
