TIL that when people refer to the Chicken Man in a Philly context they don’t necessarily mean the guy who got blown up in the Springsteen song. Sometimes they’re referring to a guy in South Philly who is famous for eating 40 rotisserie chickens in 40 days.

This morning I mixed up the universities of George Mason and James Madison. Nice to have a new one to add to confusing the Miamis, Depaul/Depauw, various Loyolas, whatever is happening in the state system of Ohio, etc.

This is correct but I also hope it’s about Surinamese sandwiches, an excellent and underrated cuisine (…which I’ve only eaten in Amsterdam)

This is so smart; I wasn’t so aware but definitely benefitted from working at liberal arts colleges right after I finished my PhD
When I told my phd faculty at Vandy that I was uninterested in working at an R1 directly out of the program, because I thought the incentives would mean my pedagogy would suffer at too critical a point in my development, some of them made clear that it was R1 or bust in their mind
R1: No we're not hiring on the tenure track because our peers aren't hiring on the tenure track

I disabled the Ring that came with my house but I would appreciate it if someone made a dumb doorbell that fits in the same bracket
Ring is a wildly dangerous company. Always has been. But it has sort of flown under the radar the last couple years as it tried to soften its image. Make no mistake that this is an extremely dangerous surveillance dragnet:

I'm a publisher and I have a great idea: make a style sheet that is based on a standard format but has at least two differences in each kind of citation entry, just enough to make it extremely annoying
