TIL that when people refer to the Chicken Man in a Philly context they don’t necessarily mean the guy who got blown up in the Springsteen song. Sometimes they’re referring to a guy in South Philly who is famous for eating 40 rotisserie chickens in 40 days.
Obviously a superior game (I won on my first try)

This is so smart; I wasn’t so aware but definitely benefitted from working at liberal arts colleges right after I finished my PhD
When I told my phd faculty at Vandy that I was uninterested in working at an R1 directly out of the program, because I thought the incentives would mean my pedagogy would suffer at too critical a point in my development, some of them made clear that it was R1 or bust in their mind
R1: No we're not hiring on the tenure track because our peers aren't hiring on the tenure track
R1: Our peers aren't hiring on the tenure track because we aren't hiring on the tenure track
R1: wtf our grad students aren't getting hired on the tenure track
R1: No one could know how this happened

Hi @septaphilly.bsky.social have you considered using your alert feature to alert riders to stations being out of service? Second time in a week that the BSL at Cecil has been closed with no notices posted

I disabled the Ring that came with my house but I would appreciate it if someone made a dumb doorbell that fits in the same bracket
Ring is a wildly dangerous company. Always has been. But it has sort of flown under the radar the last couple years as it tried to soften its image. Make no mistake that this is an extremely dangerous surveillance dragnet:

With Ring, American Consumers Built a Surveillance Dragnet
Ring's 'Search Party' is dystopian surveillance accelerationism.

I think I could do Winter Olympics as one of the middle guys in the four-person bobsled. No steering, no braking, just some leaning and chilling.

I'm looking for a Mac copy/paste (clipboard) manager to streamline grading and none of the free ones seem very good; any recommendations for a reasonable paid one?

(no subscriptions. I'll pay once but not every month.)

I'm a publisher and I have a great idea: make a style sheet that is based on a standard format but has at least two differences in each kind of citation entry, just enough to make it extremely annoying

Which fallacy am I SEPTAsplaining here: “the express is on the local track but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the unmarked train on the express track is a local”

Weird time to be elected to AMS office but I’m the new vice president of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter, looking forward to working with the other officers, thanks for your votes (I ran unopposed but thanks anyways)

“Man throws severed deer head out of pickup truck at protestors” is one of the more intensely upstate NY stories I’ve seen recently www.syracuse.com/crime/2026/0...
Man arrested after throwing severed deer head at anti-Trump protesters in LaFayette, police say
The president's immigration crackdown has led to a wave of protests in Central New York and around the country.

Very happy to be presenting at the revived 19th-Century Music conference this summer. Also, maybe I’ll just go to Toronto and not come back.
