TIL that when people refer to the Chicken Man in a Philly context they don’t necessarily mean the guy who got blown up in the Springsteen song. Sometimes they’re referring to a guy in South Philly who is famous for eating 40 rotisserie chickens in 40 days.

Neither of the leads can sing below a forte but this is an OK opera for that as it goes

Excited to see Andrea Chénier, everyone’s second favorite French Revolution opera, tonight!

Obviously it is inevitably second to Gottfried von Eminem’s Dantons Tod

I let the students choose boxes to look at but am going through all of them beforehand and I’m here looking at Alma Mahler’s AAA card
I'm going to see the Mahler-Werfel papers at Penn with my class and unsurprisingly there is some wild stuff in there

These anti smoking on the train ads have been up for a while and they’re so confusing. Why does it yell that SARAH IS A TEACHER? Why does it make poor Sarah look so sinister when she’s just minding her teacher business?

Not the point of the post but we were assigned The Agony and the Ecstasy for AP Euro History summer reading for some unknown reason and I think I was the only person in the class to finish it and also at 15 I was so confused about its whole deal
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

We finished the game!! There was an altercation at the concert, civil trials for the two lawsuits, Alban Berg died in World War I, no one figured out who the spy was, and the avant-garde decided to abandon Vienna and all moved to Berlin at the end
I finished the draft of my Schoenberg Reacting to the Past roleplaying game!! It requires a gavel, someone to sing Berg op 4, and 12-sided dice. Guaranteed to surprise!
