"Not magical — just math."

This is our starting point with AI and students. Not magic, not God, nothing mystical. Just a tool.

AI detectors will always lag behind AI generation. What if we focused on student transparency instead of playing tech whack-a-mole? #EduSky #AIEdu #AIinEducation

An isometric illustration of a teacher with long hair and glasses leading a diverse group of high school students seated in a semi-circle. Each student is typing on a laptop, with semi-transparent snippets of text and icons flowing upward from their screens. The warm, muted color palette creates a collaborative and thoughtful atmosphere.

Great point. Any decent promoter knows your work is rarely done after the 1st response. Narrowing and pushing back are key. This moves even novice users to better results. #AISky #EduSky

I don't see anyone talking about ChatGPT 5's biggest change: responses consistently ending with a "if you want..." style line that nudges users towards the next prompt.

This has always been an issue: people don't know what to do with LLM outputs. GPT 5 handles this better than any model I've seen

Details and lessons learned from a #Veo3 video I made over @mindfulaiedu.bsky.social #EduSky #AIEdu

🎬 What I learned from Veo 3: directing AI video feels a lot like real filmmaking—intentional, detailed, and sometimes unpredictable.

Does a roomba clean your house perfectly? No. But is it better than not cleaning your house at all? For sure.
Still think this is the right way to think about current AI tools for the foreseeable future, as productivity enhancers in domains that tolerate failure

I put Google's Veo 3 to the test. It did not disappoint. My video and a behind-the-scenes post on how I made it and what I learned about this potentially game-changing tool are below. #EduSky #AIEdu #AIinEducation

New post: mindfulaiedu.substack.com/p/the-gospel...
Digital illustration of a diverse group of high school students working collaboratively in a futuristic, AI-powered creative studio. The students are engaged in scriptwriting, editing, and creating AI-generated video content using laptops and abstract digital interfaces. The environment is modern and ethereal, filled with cool tones of blue, purple, and teal, with glowing abstract elements suggesting AI presence. On the table are stacks of books, including a Bible, textbooks, a humor writing guide, and graphic novels, symbolizing a blend of tradition, creativity, and education.

My intention was for that to be a visual representation of the process I described in the post, and “light-skinned male teacher with short hair and blue glasses” describes me. I think it did a pretty good job for an abstract illustration. Thanks for reading!

But! I do see kids regularly digging into graphic novels and following along in novels while listening to an audiobook. Different types of stimulation, but also still digesting books. So not all hope is lost!
micamulloy.bsky.social
With 2 young kids, I see this daily. I watched plenty of TV when I was a kid, but had minimal choices. Whatever was on was it. Once Little House on the Prairie came on, it was time to go outside and play. Different ball game now that absolutely competes with other interests.

“Writing is thinking” is true; I learn so much when I admit I need to rip up most of a draft.

But in spite of building revision stages into assignments, I think I’ve rarely led students to grasp this for themselves in a writing course. It takes a long project they care about, like a thesis. 1/2

Tired of cobbling together exam questions from publisher banks and archive folders? There's a better way to dial in test questions. We have a new post over at @mindfulaiedu.bsky.social #AISky #AIEdu #EduSky

Too many test banks are written for someone else’s students. Too little time to rewrite everything.
This teacher found a better way to create tests with AI that actually fit his students. Not too hard. Not too easy. Just right.

This line seems to indicate there's value to a human to AI process: "Brain-to-LLM users exhibited higher memory recall and activation of occipito-parietal and prefrontal areas"
micamulloy.bsky.social
Wait a second, this study is saying if kids use AI to write their essays they don't learn from that work??? That's the least surprising finding ever. Just more data that intentional AI use shouldn't just replace human thinking, it should support it.

You could do a find/replace of "Google" and "Cellphone" for "AI" and this 2006 article would still be relevant in 2025.

This is tangential from my original post, but in my experience asking for straight answers=blunting. AI as just-in-time-learning, differentiated instruction, and a creative thought partner=sharpening. That's a super simplified take on a VERY complex topic. Thanks for reading and chiming in!
