Meta should really be ashamed at how they handle app development. It is not that hard to have an iPhone app that is also an iPad app in 2026 folks. Threads is pathetic. They have the money and they should prioritize a good user experience.

I can say that their SDK is extremely easy to develop for.

So I've been looking at the different glasses platforms as a place for our on device AI apps to live on, and from everything I've been hearing on podcasts the best all around glasses platform is still the Meta Ray-ban models. Do you all think this is the case?

Getting Claude Code to do good Swift 6 concurrency is a pain. I've found that it is a good idea to have good examples for it to reference when starting a new project. #Swift, #iOSDev, #IndieDev

So we have our Perspective Intelligence app, which has loads of features, but there are so many things we want to do with on device AI. Do you think everything should be in one app, or should things be in their own apps where it makes sense?

I'm excited! Perspective Intelligence 1.3 is now available to everyone in the App Store. There is a new Apple Watch app, and new tools like checking the weather from the app. I hope everyone likes it, and please leave us a review in the app store. apps.apple.com/us/app/persp... #iOSDev, #InideDev

Here is the biggest thing to NOT do with Apple Foundation Models. Do NOT use proper names for things. In a task management app, do not use something like, “Call Mom,” use, “Call [person]” or something similar. This way the model doesn't try to use specifics in your user's content. #AI, #iOSDev

Here's hoping that Perspective Intelligence finishes review today. There are so many features that I'd like everyone to try and 1.4 is even better. apps.apple.com/us/app/persp... #iOSDev, #OnDeviceAI

I finally got to get out today after being sick for a few days, and I feel like I need to get out and be around the community more this year. That is one of my plans. I really enjoy being in Austin, and I think I haven’t for a while since COVID started. I'm going to fix that.
January 7, 2026 at 3:38 AM
I'm curious if there are any #Austin #Tech enthusiasts out here on Bluesky. I've been living in Austin for over 20 years, and I would really love to be a part of local tech based events if things are going on. I've been to a few over the years, but it doesn't seem that there are as many these days.

I talk about this a lot, but that is why I think Apple has the right approach with Foundation Models. There is a lot of potential for built in on device models to perform specific tasks. These models will be more useful in the longrun compared to expensive data centers.

Yep, and you can even send private cloud computer images, and it will describe the content of those images. Mona for Mastodon uses a cool trick that will send an image out of their app to a shortcut they install, get the description back, and bring that text back into their app.

I agree, and what is really truly amazing is that this is version 1. I wonder what we will see in the 27 releases of Foundation Models.

Tool calling wouldn't be the most useful in games, but custom system prompts and fine tuned adapters would be very useful.
January 6, 2026 at 5:46 AM
I've reviewed a lot of the materials online and did not see it, but it can be done since we use it in Perspective Intelligence. It definitely isn't designed for it, but that is why it is fun to see what's possible.

Also, examples that are given is to use FM as a game NPC, so in a way, that can be viewed as a sort of chat situation as well.
January 6, 2026 at 5:34 AM
I think Apple had specific use cases in mind for Foundation Models, but I have not found in their documentation where they specifically say to not use it as a chatbot. We had to get a bit creative to get it to work as one, but it is really amazing to see what it is capable of.

I really hope we as technologists can get enthusiastic about tech this year. I think tech people and users are both getting tired of the same stuff each year, so I really hope we can find something to get excited about, or that we find a way to bring optimism back to technology.
January 6, 2026 at 5:03 AM
I've worked with the model a lot of the last few months, and it definitely has limits, but it is kind of amazing for being a model that is built in to new iPhones. I wish Apple would manage sessions for us though.

Out of curiosity, is there a reason why some like Mastodon more than BlueSky or the reverse? I think I personally just forget that all of these social networks exist, so I'd be curious as to why people like one over the other.
January 6, 2026 at 4:13 AM
I really do keep forgetting to post here. I hope everyone has had a great start to the year.

I have become a huge fan of Google classroom. I’m in the process of moving all of my developer courses over there. The app is even very nice.
