In 1945, the Michigan Association for Justice started out as a collection of Workers' Compensation attorneys - the first of its kind in the USA.

Nearly 80 years later, we're still a collection of Workers' Compensation attorneys, but we're also so much more. Learn more at www.michiganjustice.org.
The Mission of the Michigan Association for Justice is to promote a fair and effective justice system. We aim to support the work of attorneys in their efforts to ensure that any person who is injured by the misconduct or negligence of others can obtain justice in Michigan’s courtrooms, even when taking on the most powerful interests.

Earlier today, MAJ President Nick Andrews testified in front of the Senate Insurance Committee on the rampant fraud and abuse by auto insurers in Michigan.
Statement from MAJ President Nick Andrews:

“Today's testimony in front of the Senate Insurance Committee demonstrates what happens when insurance companies aren’t held accountable through bad faith laws. DIFS is neither equipped nor empowered to handle the frequency and breadth of fraud the insurance industry commits against Michigan drivers. It’s past time for the legislature to send SB 245 to the Governor to finally hold the industry accountable for their bad faith actions.”

Today, the MI House is discussing bills aimed at punishing those who commit insurance fraud, yet there's no set of bills to address fraud committed by insurers in Michigan. Insurance fraud is a two-way street, and legislation is needed to require both parties act in good faith or face legal action.

Insurance fraud is not only committed by individuals making claims. Insurers like CURE have nearly free reign to act with impunity, with no civil or criminal remedies for their fraudulent and deceptive business practices. Read the Detroit News article covering CURE's antics to learn more

MAJ supports the Michigan Senate’s passage of SB 134. This bill, passed on a party line vote, overturns bad court precedent and strengthens the Michigan Consumer Protection Act.

Now is the time for the Michigan House to step up: pass SB 134 and put people over corporate profits.

In a bipartisan vote, the MI State Senate passed bills today to allow survivors of sexual assault to seek civil justice for themselves against both the perpetrators and the institutions that protected their abusers. MAJ urges the House to vote quickly on these important bills.
