"For what it is worth, I am sorry about ruining your date," Ferdinand starts. He always does - these evenings have their rhythm, after all. The same actor opens the same tired scene in that same place, same time, same wounds never allowed to scab. It makes the differences all the more grating. There are the obvious ones, too numerous to count, although Hubert will try. Catalogue them the same way he keeps track of Ferdinand's cravat pins and waistcoats - for no reason, but for his own satisfaction. Or at least something close to it. One. He's actually reading the menu. "It wasn't a date," Hubert corrects him. Ferdinand glances up, and there's a peculiar glint in his eyes. Not the warm, borrowed light of the candles between them, but something closer to sunlight reflected on water's surface. It's striking and unsettling in equal measure. "My other self claimed the same, yet I cannot but wonder what you would call it then. Folie à deux?" He clears his throat and his gaze drops back down to the menu. "Forgive me. It seems I have been forgetting my manners lately. It matters not, Hubert - the other one - only needs to cross-reference Garreg Mach's layout with him."

Two. He's not wearing gloves; the skin on display is covered in odd, fern-like marks that disappear under the cuffs of his shirt. Hubert wonders how far they reach. Hubert wonders if his other self knows. "So I take it you didn't manage to capture the monastery?" he asks instead. The ferns seem to uncurl as Ferdinand - not his Ferdinand, but a Ferdinand nonetheless - runs a hand through his hair. The gesture is so intimately familiar it loosens something in Hubert's chest. "That is... it is all rather complicated. In short, for various reasons our current base is the old imperial summer residence. But if we are to reconnect with the Ashen Wolves, we need to establish a secure way in and out, and-"

He stops himself, and pinches the bridge of his nose. Hubert empties his wine glass in one go, but his mouth stays uncomfortably dry. "I truly am sorry. I must be terrible company."

Three. He hesitates more in conversation, pauses at strange moments, and sometimes the eloquence Hubert is accustomed to seems to betray him completely. Then he speaks in fits and starts, thoughts overlapping one another until words crumble, like waves crashing against a rocky shore. Then - not always, but sometimes - the other Hubert, the one that touches people as though afraid of breaking them, the one that touches people, speaks for him. An absurd thing to be envious of. And yet.

If you have certain characters next to each other, they get a stat boost or negation!!

Ike and Mist = +10 Crit on Ike
Ike and Soren = Full Critical Negation on Soren.

It shows Ike is protecting them!!!!

Ferdinand bit his tongue and focused on his book with renewed efforts, trying to block out the cooing of the couple a few tables over. Did they not have better things to do? Nobody in their right mind would waste their time on crushes when only the graduation stood between them and their adult duties. For one, Ferdinand had to find a way to deal with his father and-

"Room for one more?"

Without waiting for an answer, Dorothea pulled up a chair and sat next to Petra, peering into her notes. "You always work so hard, Petra!" She nudged her classmate lightly. "As if there wasn't enough to admire about you."

"I also work hard," Ferdinand pointed out, radiating all the dignity befitting a noble puppy left in the rain.

Dorothea glanced at him. "… as you should?"
