The #ChurchOfRockAndRoll #35 Andrew Loog Oldham got Big Lips & Big Ears to start writing the songs. And even if the Satyr made up riffs, like he did on The Last Time, he got no writing credit. On the follow-up, their biggest hit yet, he was reduced to playing acoustic guitar. It was their band now.

“The wild and rambunctious literary figure, Neal Cassady was found dead 58 years ago today on some lonesome railroad tracks somewhere in Mexico. In the prophetic words of Jack Kerouac:

"Someday Dean's going to go on one of these trips and never come back."”

The #ChurchOfRockAndRoll #33 If George Harrison's chord at the start of A Hard Day's Night kickstarted Swinging London, then McGuinn's chiming riff at the start of Mr Tambourine Man a year later heralded the High Sixties, the moment when everything came into colour.

The #ChurchOfRockAndRoll #31. The Satyr's combo needed a manager and right on cue a manager found them, a teenage hustler called Andrew Loog Oldham. His cavemanesque middle name rhymed with Clockwork Orange's "droog". Infamy ensued.

The #ChurchOfRockAndRoll #30. It was Dave Clark's name. But it was Mike Smith's voice. And Mike's piano & songwriting. They could have been The Mike Smith Five. But he didn't like to hog the limelight. And Dave had the business head. And so it was. But it was Mike's voice.
