Eastern Orthodox tradition also recognizes him as the first iconographer. His symbol is the winged bull. The Catholic, Anglican and Eastern Orthodox calendars all place him on October 18. The Coptic Orthodox will be venerating him on November 1.
Today is the Feast Day of St Luke the Evangelist. According to tradition, Saint Luke was a Physician. He wrote both the Gospel of Saint Luke and also, the Acts of the Apostles. According to St. Gregory of Nazianzus, Saint Luke was martyred.

Today is also the Feast Day of St. Hedwig of Silesia. She was a member of the Bavarian House of Andechs, she was both Duchess of Silesia and Greater Poland before becoming the High Duchess consort of Poland.

These three bishops were three Church of England Bishops tried for heresy, and who were subsequently executed in 1555 and 1556.
Today is the Feast Day of Hugh Latimer, Nicholas Ridley and Thomas Cranmer on the Episcopal Church Calendar. As a side note, the Church of England only has a Feast Day for Thomas Cranmer on March 21.

After she became a nun, she became a minor celebrity, dispensing wisdom and sometimes would levitate. She brought reform to the Carmelite order & helped found convents. The quote on her meme is take from the Interior Castle, a classic of Christian Mystical literature. She died Oct 15, 1582.
Today is the Feast Day of St. Theresa of Avila. St. Teresa of Avila was descended from conversos (Jews that were had comverted to Catholicism. Initially, she resisted becoming a nun.

One of my former priests, Craig Bustrin once told me that Schereschewsky was one Anglican Saint that he would like to get a relic of.
Before passing away in 1906, he completed translating the Bible. He said, "I have sat in this chair for over twenty years. It seemed very hard at first. But God knew best. He kept me for the work for which I am best suited."
Joseph Schereschewsky was born to Jewish parents in the Lithuanian town of Tauroggen. He started off Presbyterian, and then, he joined the Episcopal Church. He was elected Bishop of Shanghai in 1877, when he began translating the Bible into Classical Chinese.

Before Saint Callistus was made Pope, he was an enslaved person. St. Hippolytus disagreed with Callistus's more gracious approach to murderers, adulterers, and people guilty of sexual sin. He also believed that Free Women could legally marry slaves.

I belong to the Society of King Charles Martyr. He's not an official Saint on the Episcopal Church calendar but he has a popular devotion.
St Edward the Confessor is the only English King that was made a Saint. He was known especially for his piety. He died in 1066.

Edith Cavell was a nurse serving for the Red Cross during WWI in Belgium. Following the German occupation of Belgium & motivated by her Christian faith, she smuggled French and British soldiers and civilians to neutral countries. She was executed October 12, 1915.
