Having won the Ursula K. Le Guin 2025 Prize for Fiction, I’m really excited to read Rakesfall by Vajra Chandrasekera. The Saint of Bright Doors was one of my all time fave reads of 2023 and if you haven’t read it yet, I urge you to give it a go.

Goodreads🥇opening round, gotta say - pleasantly surprised at how stacked the Sci-fi, Horror and Hist lists were. Quite hard to pick a “fave”. But now wondering, how many voted for “inevitable” winners, when given how recently they were released (regardless of merit) most defo have not read them.

The series has, so far, been one of his best. If you haven’t gotten stuck into it yet, and you love great character work and rewarding world building, do yourself a favour…

I think this is now the most beautiful book I own. Yes, it’s Adrian’s text (as good as ever) and Anderida did amazing work here, from typography to binding, etc. but my lord, Ian McQue’s art goes f-ing hard.
