Trying to nurse my confidence— and facility with my tablet— back to health. The important thing for me was to get these drawings to look convincing enough at a glance. I was struggling with this balance all year, and I know that struggle was holding me back from being productive.

Brian Wilson was— and is, and always will be— my idol. His songs could be happy, sad, resonant, haunting, dreamlike, and even farcical, but he kept bitterness out of his writing like no one else I can think of, even through the kinds of rough patches that have broken other rock stars.
