My name is Corone and I'm a guy who writes dialogue and occasionally accidentally finds myself writing things to accompany said dialogue. I am in an enduring and devoted partnership with my beautiful wife the em dash. All else is secondary. My favourite genre is mystery, and my favourite book of the ones I've read recently enough to remember is Gideon the Ninth. My favourite type of fic to read or write are missing scenes or extensions of canon, usually digging into a theme or relationship that didn't get enough attention in canon. “So,” Akira says. “You’re alive.” “I’ve noticed,” Akechi replies. He still wears gloves, Akira notices. His hair is longer, and he’s wearing it tied back. Akira’s pretty sure Akechi hadn’t grown — he’d seen the brief frown flick across his face when he’d noticed Akira was taller than him now, an almost childish expression on the features of his adult face. Akira has to pinch himself, again, to convince himself he’s still not dreaming. That Goro Akechi — a living, breathing, twenty-eight-year-old, not the teenage ghost that’s been haunting Akira’s darkest moments for ten years — is really in front of him. “I missed you,” Akira says, because I mourned you longer than I knew you and I still wasn’t over it feels a bit too forward. “I thought you’d be better off without me.” Akechi takes a sip of his drink — some kind of soda, even though everyone else in the bar seems to be holding a cocktail glass or sharing a bottle of wine. “And I knew you’d never bring yourself to turn me down if I contacted you, so I decided to leave things as they were.” “Mhm.” Did that mean he would vanish again after this? Would that be worse than never knowing the truth? He could spend the rest of their life just asking Akechi every question in his head right now, but instead, he just stares at him, willing him not to turn translucent.

Did they? Do they? Have a chance? He’s never really thought about it like that, so, “No?” Wait ― no. Wrong answer. “Yes? I don’t know.” Akechi scoffs. “Really? Some fucking leader you are, unable to even―” “Shut up,” Akira tells him. “You all thought you were such hot shit, didn’t you?” he sneers, ignoring Akira. “So sure you could change the world, make a difference where no one else could!” He laughs, sharp as broken glass. “But it was all nothing! Pointless! Just a bunch of kids stumbling in the dark and deluded into thinking they could change things! Honestly―” “Shut up ,” Akira says, with the same force he uses against enemy shadows and palace rulers high on their own power, because he can’t come up with a proper argument yet, but he knows that Akechi is fucking wrong, saying all this shit about the thieves because he can’t admit that he was right there― It takes Akira a second to realize that Akechi has actually shut up. Huh.

My fav book would have to be The Secret of Dragonhome by John Peel, a classic! Joker had just enough time to brace his hands in front of him before Goro impacted with him, slamming them both into the far wall. "Oof!" Joker hissed, his head hitting against the wall with a loud crack. If Goro had been more aware of himself, he would have winced, but instead his body swelled with pleasure to hurt hurt hurt. "Crow! Hold on!" Joker gritted his teeth, arms keeping Goro at length. Goro's claws were inches from his face, trying their best to gouge out those beautiful features. One good swipe, and he could break that nose, rip a gash in his cheek that his doctor would have to spend ages stitching up. He could make Joker hurt, make him cry, make him bleed and- "Akechi. I'm sorry." Goro's body stilled, muscles braced but frozen. Through his mad haze, he could make out the despondent look on Joker's face. His eyes burnt with that same flame Goro was ever drawn to. Piercing straight through Goro's crazed state to pin him in place. He panted heavily, unable to move, to stop himself nor continue. "You're hurting, aren't you?" Joker said softly. “I didn't realise. You need to let out your frustrations, don't you?" “...” Goro pressed his lips into a line, willing his muscles to relax. The power was still humming through him, and he didn't feel nearly as satisfied. There were still reserves to burn, and given how uneasy he felt, and how long it had been since he could last let loose, he didn't like Joker's chances if he stuck around. He had to scare him off. Before he did something he would regret. "Fuck off!" Goro roared. Joker flinched, clearly not expecting the response so loud in his face "Akechi-" "Get out of here before I fucking kill you," Goro seethed..

My absolute favorite book HAS to be Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett-- it's a beautiful, touching exploration of mortality & morality, with a healthy dash of goofy absurdism. A very close tie has to be The Thirty Names Of Night by Zeyn Joukhadar: a vivid exploration of a Syrian trans man's quest to rediscover his mother's life story! As for my favorite genre, I adore fantasy of all kinds!! Fun fact: I've read 47 books so far this year, most of them from my local libraries :) Did you know they have yuri at the library now. Did you know th-- The guilt begins as a twinge in Akira’s hipbone, like something’s coiling around it and exploring the top of his femur. It snakes up through his innards and writhes hot-cold-hot up through his spinal cord. By the time he has eaten the leftover curry he’d stashed in the fridge for moments like these he could fly with the force of it tugging him upwards, saying look, look what you did, look what you did wrong. More importantly, though: he has to go to work. He mentally allots the extra hours between now and his shift for distractions, because if he has to be left alone with his thoughts for one more minute he’s going to scream. When he heads out to the living room he throws on his bag and jacket with more speed than strictly necessary. “I’m heading out,” he calls over his shoulder, but when Goro is silent he turns to look. Goro, still on the couch, looks at him sidelong. “I love you.” It feels like a promise; it feels like a threat. Goro has a habit of saving I love yous like they’re the last box of a beloved cookie flavor, doomed to go out of stock in a week: savored, hoarded, given only as a special gift. Akira feels like it means something that he’s pulled one out now, of all times. “I love you,” he replies, taking one from his own stock and crushing it between his teeth.

Writer Nemu A very sleepy jellyfish says hello. Much like a jellyfish, I do not have a brain. Despite this, I enjoy the occasional dark, atmospheric tale with the kinds of amoral characters you love to hate. My goal this year is to finally finish <House of Leaves>. Probably. The crooked door to their new home hangs wide open. It’s too dark to see beyond the genkan, even with the sun baring down so hard Goro can feel the sweat pooling at her back. It looks kind of like a mouth, a more childish part of Goro thinks. With how long it had been abandoned, how much must it have hungered, desperate for anyone, anything to ease the pain of that all-encompassing emptiness? “Nice place,” Akira says. She bounces on the balls of her feet, a feeble attempt to shift the weight of the knickknack box she’d clearly overpacked (despite Goro’s attempts to warn her). “Surprised you got it for so cheap.” From any other mouth, Goro would assume sarcasm. From Akira? Goro knows she means it. Objectively, she’s right. It is a nice place. Big. Spacious. Two stories. Rooms enough for Akira and Goro to have a space of their own, and then some. There’s even a lawn. Goro’s never had a lawn. Too many years in crowded cities in shitty apartments—there’s barely enough space to breathe, let alone enjoy such a luxury as a slice of nature all to your own. She can already hear Akira rambling about setting up a garden. “Someone died here,” Goro says. “The realtor was apparently having a hard time getting it off the market. Had to sell at a loss.” Somewhere in the backyard, a tree branch cracks under the weight of itself, falling to the earth with a heavy thunk. “That’s so....” Akira shudders at her side, finally coming down flat on her heels—the last of her nervous energy expelled like a sigh. “Sad.” Sad. Goro guesses that’s one word for it.
