I just clocked the dress Alison is wearing in this scene...isn't it one that we saw Charlotte wearing in S1? If so, what a brilliant costuming choice! It makes so much sense that Alison would wear Charlotte's hand-me-downs!
Did I just post an essay-length rant about Ralph Starling from #Sanditon? Yes, yes I did. (I originally intended it for Bluesky but it ended up being way too long... you can thank me later.) If you want to know where my head's been at lately, read it here: www.reddit.com/r/Sanditon/c...

Awww! Luna knew from the start that Charlotte was the one!
This scene cracks me up. Mrs. Wheatley is tattling on Charlotte for being late, and Mr. C doesn't give a sh*t. Then he's like "brace yourself" because these feral children will make your life a misery. Luckily Charlotte is unfazed by everything. This entire household will soon be under her spell!
So here's what I need to know... Was there any dialogue in this cut scene from #Sanditon S2 Ep5? Or was it just several long moments of #Heybourne staring at each other and Augusta thinking 'what the heck is happening?' Only @redplanettv.bsky.social can tell us!

How do the writers of the tv adaptation use elements from this chapter as seeds for their own continuation of the story? What big commonalities and differences did you notice between the show and the text?
Charlotte witnesses Clara and Sir Edward having a hidden tete-a-tete in the grounds of Sanditon House. We already know Sir Edward’s intentions towards Clara, but what does this meeting tell us about Clara’s motivations and schemes? Is she the innocent heroine she’s been painted to be?
At last the much-discussed Sidney Parker appears in the flesh! He seems to make little impression upon Charlotte, but what impressions are we the readers left with? What, if anything, is promised by his introduction?
Tom and Diana’s separate applications to Lady Denham’s charity (via Mary) are presented for clear comic effect, but then Tom makes a strategic withdrawal. Does this show a degree of awareness he hasn’t demonstrated before, or is it merely selfish protection of his own interests?
Well folks, the #SanditonSummerBookClub has made it to the end of the fragment! This week (August 17th-23rd) we're discussing Chapter 12 of #Sanditon by #JaneAusten. Read the full text here, then join in by commenting below or DM me to join the Discord!

His joy and her disbelief in this scene get me every time!
Over a year ago, I started campaigning on the other platform for @redplanettv.bsky.social to release the deleted scenes from #Sanditon Seasons 2&3 as they did for S1. While I've taken a bit of a break lately, I still hope that we will someday be able to see them.

Mrs. Griffiths and her three charges are certainly very present in the tv adaptation. What differences or similarities in their characterization struck you? What reasons do you suspect lay behind the writers’ decisions with regard to the changes they made?
Austen’s description of the Miss Beauforts is characteristically sharp and biting. What new flavor does the addition of these two vain and frivolous sisters add to the already rich cast of characters in Sanditon?
This chapter contains what is perhaps the most provocative character description in Austen-- “[Miss Lambe] was about seventeen, half mulatto, chilly and tender...” To what extent do you think our heiress is being set up to cause a stir in Sanditon?
The start of this chapter could easily be titled “much ado about nothing” or something similar. What does the misunderstanding about the rich West Indians and the seminary from Camberwell, and Diana’s reaction to it, say about her as a character?
It's the penultimate week of the #SanditonSummerBookClub and this week (Aug 10th-16th) we'll be tackling Chapter 11 of #Sanditon by #JaneAusten. You can read the text online here: gutenberg.net.au/ebooks/fr008...

Ugh, I miss this show so much!
Part of this chapter was adapted in the tv series. What similarities or differences did you notice between the show and the text?
So far, Charlotte has been a mostly reactive character but in this chapter we get this line: “Such was the influence of youth and bloom that [Arthur] began even to make a sort of apology for having a fire.” Is Charlotte inspiring change or increased self-awareness in the people around her?
While Susan remains a background character, Arthur Parker gets his moment in the spotlight as he converses with Charlotte. What other Austen characters does he remind you of? Do you think Austen intended him to remain a static character or would she have given him some sort of arc?
In this chapter, Charlotte meets Susan and Arthur Parker. How do Charlotte’s perceptions of them differ from how they see themselves? How does her assessment of the Parker siblings give us insight into her own character?

I'm writing a 2nd draft of a novel right now and am having to kill so many darlings! It's brutal but I know the story will be stronger for it. Most of the cut scenes are wrong POV or self-indulgent conversations between the leads but I do miss them! Maybe I'll do a deleted scenes release some day.
