Bugonia is one of the highlights of #LFF and my favourite Emma Stone-Yorgos Lanthimos collab (and I liked Poor Things and The Favourite a lot!) I had a blast with this unpredictable dark comedy thriller and can't wait to see it again. In cinemas in November.

Moss & Freud depicts the unexpected friendship that blossomed between Kate Moss and artist Lucian Freud as she sat for a nude portrait. Ellie Bamber and Derek Jacobi are very good and their evolving bond is compelling, but the film itself is just fine.

Plainclothes is a powerful drama with excellent performances from Tom Blyth and Russell Tovey. I was compelled by the story and the surprising character revelations but the visual style and editing held me back from loving it. In cinemas now.

The dog performance of the year has arrived! Good Boy may be quite weak as a haunted house horror, but I was so impressed by the expressive Indy that I didn't really mind. Give that dog an award! In cinemas now.

Wake Up Dead Man is the weakest of the Knives Out films. I loved the central mystery, the intriguing set of suspects and Josh O'Connor's scene-stealing performance, but the storytelling is convoluted and it's way too long.

Tron: Ares looks and sounds freaking cool, but the visuals and score are definitely overcompensating for a weak story. That's nothing new for the Tron franchise though. Jared Leto may be the star but Greta Lee and Evan Peters carry the film.

Kristen Stewart's The Chronology of Water is definitely going to be a divisive one. I respected her unusual and uncompromising vision and was in awe of Imogen Poots's career-best performance, but the film is a lot to take in and quite a hard watch.

My #LFF reviews begin now with Twinless. I enjoyed the smart, unpredictable and hilarious dark comedy-drama from start to finish. Dylan O'Brien and James Sweeney's performances are so damn good, as is Sweeney's script.

One Battle After Another is a very good, entertaining movie but it is not a masterpiece or the best of the year. That being said, Leonardo DiCaprio is hilarious as the bumbling oaf, Chase Infiniti is a star, and Sean Penn makes a play for another Oscar.

The best cinema release this week is Urchin, a gritty drama directed by Babygirl's Harris Dickinson in his feature-length debut. It's a poignant, powerful film about homelessness and drug abuse, with a strong turn from Frank Dillane. In cinemas now.

HIM has a solid premise, an unnerving atmosphere, trippy visuals and an intense, unhinged performance from Marlon Wayans. But these don't amount to much because the story never evolves. A classic case of style over substance. In cinemas Friday.

I do not understand the hype surrounding The Smashing Machine. It's the best performance of Dwayne Johnson's career, without question, but it is not Oscar-worthy. Johnson and Emily Blunt are excellent but the storytelling didn't work for me at all.

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, a fantasy romance starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, is such a mixed bag. I hated the romance aspect but I liked the more meaningful, existential scenes. Shame it takes such a long time to get to the good stuff.
