It's also just normal that the violence of October 7th, however shocking and extreme, would get swallowed up by the subsequent two years of unremitting violence. You'd have to rate the victims of that one day as more significant than the victims of those years in order to hold them as equivalent.

Most of his interviews are polite, informed discussions with subject matter experts. His big trick is catching out certain people who think of themselves this way and revealing their limitations. I would have been very surprised if he'd approached this interview that way.

Yeah, by the 2020's in South America I feel like everybody has a pretty clear idea of what shock therapy will look like. But even somebody who believes that the poor are their electoral enemies should hesitate to celebrate their murder.
