Likewise, heavier materials should have a thicker bottom line to add visual weight (you'll see I do this with belts, the chin, feet and shoes a lot). Also won't hurt to play with adding varying degrees of shading or more intense shading in some places. Just play around.

Yeah part of why I embraced the sketchiness of my style--my "lines" are just really intentional slightly cleaned sketches. 1 key I see you doing but you could lean more into is basically thicken lines where they meet eachother-- it implies shadow and dimension.

turnip pen for coloring, then I like to texture with colored pencil, design pencil, and sometimes use watercolor brushes at random but always end up using the wash after or during the process. Experiment.

Well at the end of the day it's meaningless to compare to others your story is different, your BUILD is different, your life is different. But yeah I need to play more with brushes I basically just use a few defaults most the time but I bounce between Mechanical Pencil for lines and hatching,

Yeah and trust me I get that but the only one you need to compare to is yourself from yesterday. I found mybold tablet and paint tool sai combined made me feel limited on expression, I've felt a huge difference using clip studio paint and my newer XP pen. Sometimes hardware matters too.

You also seem to be where I was at for a couple years and sometimes still get with stiff posing or lack of pose variance, which makes it all feel samey, and as an artist you feel it more than others see it.

It's not that it doesn't have soul, but the transfer to digital is removing some of it due to how flat your line work looks. The cel shading is the other part, when paired with how you don't add a lot of texture detail(which is fine it's a balance I add too much in early designs)
February 8, 2026 at 5:10 AM
Well I'm just being honest. I still remember the most funny backhanded compliment I got about my art was how good I draw feet despite not doing fetish art of it; But the reality is you're good at what you study or observe most as an artist. For me my rendering and texture is strongest.

INTO based on...how you construct OCs. You lean towards slightly elongated and thin waists, emphasize the waist as a visual resting area when you aren't drawing expansion focused stuff, you tend to exaggerate the hips, so it's clear where your visual focus area is both to you and the audience.
February 8, 2026 at 4:52 AM
Very round, simplified, cel-shading,"Deviantart coded" not necessarily in a bad way, but I think the biggest thing is your lack of line thickness/ distinct line depth variation makes it feel less alive than your traditional work, like line tool based. But same as me you can tell what you're

Sometimes its more about maintaining flow and finding the thing you want to finish or can handle. Sometimes it's just daydreaming or meditating or coming up with the idea. There is creative rest. For my college art classes I'll spend hours laying down or "sleep on it" literally before doing.
February 1, 2026 at 6:42 PM
Yeah, I've had to do this dude. I have tons of illustrations that aren't or may never be "finished" and I recently been dropping stuff from like 2023-2024 that were still good sketches. Shit, my Mitch-Kun's Mansion ost art sat as a sketch for a YEAR before I revisited it and it's kinda peak.
February 1, 2026 at 6:42 PM
Like, it's not fun and usually not your best work drawing off the cuff without a story to tell or clear vision. That feels more adversarial than "spark of inspiration" illustrations that you can pour days into and feel your soul rewarded.
February 1, 2026 at 6:37 PM
Yeah and that's a good mentality, if you're TOO objective you don't enjoy anything or experience rest and that leads to burnout. It sounds more like they're struggling with blank canvas and meandering; that requires a bit of daydreaming, meditation, journaling, etc. Rest that's still creative.
February 1, 2026 at 6:37 PM
Yeah that makes sense, I've been spending less time drawing and more time frontloading with writing and creating a stage and scenarios to justify it. Blank canvas syndrome is real, I've been challenged by but enjoy having a story or moment to express rather than going in blind so I get it.

You're definitely putting out more art than me, That's why I suggested committing to X amount of time towards it more than setting a goal on amount. Don't burn yourself out, but adjust as you need to to stay sane

yeah the glow is beautiful but not overdone, you nailed it
