Shocked to be in my 84th year. Lifelong blue voter, though I don't post or comment about politics, just cats, nature, photos, gardens, food. Buddhist, lapsed meditator, but still trying (often failing) to live the teachings of the Dhamma. Go Ducks!

Sleeping it off after a rough night with little sleep. His own fault! He freaked out when I got up at 9pm to read because I couldn’t sleep. Zoomies! We both got to sleep around midnight, and of course up at 3am.

The sun hadn't quite reached the little greenhouse when I was out there, but everything survived the rains quite nicely. Peas are growing. The transplanted kale (2nd photo, top) and lettuce (two larger seedlings) are all happy. #Garden
Sugar peas are suddenly growing fast! Two seeds didn't germinate, but 4 will probably be enough for me. I could transplant them, but they go outside the greenhouse and there's a bit of a cold snap coming, so I'll leave them where they are for now. Tiny kale seedlings at the top were transplanted a couple of days ago, before the deluge hit. Like most things, they are growing slowly but look happy, anyway. Not dying or wilting is my general definition of plant happiness. The three spinach seedlings were transplanted maybe a week ago, and while they haven't grown noticeably, they all seem to be surviving. The one on the right was problematic in that regard, since when I removed it from the starting pot, the small roots hung from the plant by one tiny root. I thought it would die, but so far, it looks like the others. I haven't had much luck germinating spinach, so I'll either try once more with direct sow, or try something else in that spot.

I could swear I ran across the Langston name in my genealogy research, but can only find two and not in GA. Was it a different name? Or am I losing what was left of my mind?

The blue color of the lake was, to me, the most stunning part of the whole, though the entire view that isn't capturable with a camera is pretty darned stunning! I found it hard to get bits and pieces that were anywhere near as stunning as the whole.

A different kind of forest for #ForestFriday. A rather scraggly tangle of twisted trees along a trail in a coastal forest just north of Florence, OR. I was fascinated by that forest and have many photos.
A trail winds through a forest of stunted-looking trees. Tree trunks and limbs twist and turn in every direction, leaving an interesting pattern of dappled light on the trail.

Opted for a different walk to the ponds today. Lightly traveled and mostly along side the outlet creek. The fog was a bonus.
Gorgeous heron not far away, totally unconcerned with my presence. Dewy spider webs on a spiky plant. Thistle? A fairly new raised pathway that connects the new path to the old ponds path. I have a thing for foggy morning skies and spiky silhouettes.

Despite frost this morning, garden babies are happy as can be inside their greenhouse and under frost-gard at night. Definitely grown in the last week, but more importantly, they look happier. A couple of direct-sown lettuce sprouts, and transplanted spinach (which I may regret). #Garden
These were all started inside but weren't doing well with insufficient light. Out in their greenhouse for a week, and they are happy! Peas coming up slowly. Kale, on right, getting its first true leaves. Lettuce on left is the first to come up, grows very slowly. Sown inside, came up quickly, so I put them outside. They seem happy. I've also direct-sown plots of each, and a few are starting to come up. I should have plenty, one way or another! I decided to transplant these three spinach seedlings today, and I think I may regret that, but we will see how they do. The one on the right seems the most problematic. Two little lettuce seedlings that were direct-sown have popped up already. I expect to see more of these soon, as they seem to germinate easily.

Yesterday was a cloudy and cool so I put some fros-tgard over the babies for some extra protection. Today is warmer, and mostly sunny, so it's off. Everybody looks happy, and growing a little. None of the direct-planted lettuce is up yet. #Garden
Inside a small greenhouse, with trays of seedlings and some bare ground where other seeds have been or will be planted. It's cool, but sunny, and will be 60ish today. Since yesterday was cool and cloudy, I covered them with some frost-gard fabric for some extra protection. They'll get this as needed, and overnight, until they're big enough and/or the weather warms up.
