"A joyous romp through gore."

AMONG SERPENTS is out now in hardcover, ebook, and audiobook.
Nothing better than playing old Nintendo 64 games with your kids on Thanksgiving morning.

Today, my classes are doing book speed dating.

Should be fun!

I love that when I'm set up with my books in a bookstore, readers will come talk to me, and listen to my pitch.

And even if they're not interested in my books, they're almost always super kind and congratulatory.

It's a good feeling.

It's a really strange feeling writing a book while already knowing it will be published.

I'll be at Barnes & Noble in Park City, Utah signing books from 1-4 today. Come see me!

There was a time when my author email inbox was a sea of rejection and unhappy things.

Not anymore.

Anytime I notice one of my students reading one of my books, I say something like, "Hey, I've met that author!"

And the kids always smile.

I'm pretty sure they want me to notice they're reading my book.

My next book after the Above the Black trilogy...

BEHIND THE GLASS, planned for release on November 10th, 2026 from Blackstone Publishing.

Can't wait!

Utah readers!

I will be signing books at Barnes & Noble in Park City on Saturday, November 22nd from 1-4PM. If you have not had your book signed, this is a great chance for you to come meet me.

I hope to see you there!

I've been very fortunate that my author career has picked up enough that I have gone part-time as a teacher for the last two school years.

I have no idea how I'd manage 2026 with two books coming out, and a deadline for another book due in May, if I was still full-time.

One thing that helped me in my author journey is maintaining the perspective that there will always be authors more "successful" and authors who are less "successful" than I am.

Never compare journeys. It'll just make you unhappy.

When my brothers and I were kids, we'd look at the TV guide and find an awesome rated R 80s movie on network TV.

I vividly remember watching Bloodsport with my brothers, and renacting the scenes by play fighting during the long commercials.

Makes me feel old. But those were the days, man.

Okay Predator: Badlands is excellent!

Something fun that has started happening to me is I'm now being invited to out-of-state reading festivals and schools for visits.

My publisher is also pitching me to places, too, and sending me on tour again. So lots of travel, but it's super fun meeting readers all over. 😀

My oldest prefers reading physical books and has been waiting since AMONG SERPENTS to read DOWNFALL.

I gave her a physical advance readers copy of DF and she's already on chapter seven. Each morning when I drive her to school, we talk about what she read.

It's pretty special.

Seeing the new Predator tomorrow! Can't wait!

Got an email this morning that I wasn't sure was AI spam at first and seemed like an okay author opportunity. It was a little strangely worded, so I was looking at it with suspicion.

Then it said, "We will need a setup fee."

I was like, "NOPE. Blocked."

Added another pin this morning.

Look at all the places I've signed my books!
November 13, 2025 at 2:21 PM
Among all the cool stuff that happened for me today, we also sold out of my books at the book fair! 😀

I left behind signed bookmarks for students who weren't able to get a book.

Just learned today that SKY'S END made the Indiana state reading list!

That's now Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, and Utah!

Today, I am going before a whole school of ~600 students to talk about my books and my journey to getting published. It's gonna be a good day!
November 11, 2025 at 1:55 PM
My big school visit starts today. Today, I'll be teaching on "Writing a book" and "Getting a book published."

I'm going to eat lunch with the creative writing students, too. I can't wait for their questions.

And I'm going to be signing a lot of books, too!

Wish me luck!
