Niecephew day—spent the morning at a soda museum and saw some unexpected (and unexplained) characters. Now we’re geocaching for J before I run M to her audition for Newsies. Then we’ll go home and make fall snacks. Pretty awesome. #aunting #museumlife

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

“I’m always fromChicago. If I play Macbeth, it’s gonna be Macbeth from Chicago.” ~Ron Dean (who’ll always be Crumb to me.)

RIP actor & Chicago native Ron Dean.

He interrogated Dr. Richard Kimble in THE FUGITIVE, he dropped Andy off at detention in THE BREAKFAST CLUB, he was shot by Harvey Dent in THE DARK KNIGHT, he was Marty Crane's poker buddy on FRASIER, and so much more.

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

I knew Pierre, growing up SD adjacent, but not Lead!

I agree if you can find a basic form to tweak it should make your life easier. This sounds like a job for a glue gun, if you have one. You can get glue sticks for them that are designed to work with fabric!

My nephew took this photo of his sister at our nighttime exhibition as part of his assignment for the high school(!) newspaper. He submitted other photos for the article because he was told not to have people's faces without permission and he is a rule-follower, but this one is my fav. #museumlife
In a nighttime scene, a shadowy figure of a young girl stands before a geometric sculpture lit by teal colored lights from within. Behind the sculpture, two trees are lit with purple and red lights.

Today the weather shifted from almost 90F to the 60s w/rain & wind. After an exhausting last week, I decided to work from home for a couple hours, put on a long sleeved tee and a bulky cardigan, opened the windows, made coffee & scones, & lit a cinnamon scented candle. 15/10 would recommend.

The ESPN college volleyball commentators are getting better but somebody please, for the love of Jordan Larson, get them to stop comparing the last 5 points of a set to the "red zone in football." That is not at all how this works.

Oh. My. Goodness. I mean this has to be Chris Carter himself feeding this line to the reviewer, right?

no no the publishing industry is doing fine, why do you ask

Jennifer L. Armentrout and Hellmann's
In a promotion designed for BookTok enjoyment, Jennifer L. Armentrout’s just-published THE PRIMAL OF BLOOD AND BONE is available in a special, limited-edition "garlic-scented copy, infused with Hellmann’s Garlic Aioli to create a one-of-a-kind, Craven-proof book." They explain: "This exclusive edition is printed with garlic-infused ink, designed to ward off Armentrout’s bloodthirsty monsters, the Craven. While humans may dread garlic breath, Hellmann’s has cleverly transformed this social faux pas into an unexpected – and delicious – form of supernatural protection."

I hear *someone* is having a sale next week.

I guess they have to try and recoup some of that $2.5 billion they’re forking over for *checks notes* being deceptive? Who would’ve thought?

Feels like Oct 7 & 8 will be prime days to support independent bookstores. 😌

Today in #museumlife we ushered 130 sixth graders (in smaller groups) through all our spaces. Celebrating with my niece and her crew at the Gabby’s Dollhouse movie! We may be the only ones here, but we’ve been watching Gabby since 2021 and we love cats and crafts!

Yeah I got my vaccines on Wednesday and Thursday was a struggle. Yesterday I had to lead field trips and needed a nap before an evening outing.

Regardless of the disgraceful nonsense we will likely hear from this administration in the coming days on vaccine “recommendations,” Americas healthcare insurers issued a joint statement tonight saying coverage for Covid and flu shots will remain unchanged from prior years.

Speaks for itself.

That’s exactly why I usually wait. But I figured we see the most germ factories—I mean kids—at the museum in Nov-Dec, so even if it is less efficient in Jan-Feb, I’ll have less exposure. 🤞🤞Don’t we just live in the bestest country ever???

I made my appointment for tomorrow just because it’s the last clear day I’ll have for a while and now I’m really glad I did. I think it’s the earliest I’ve ever gotten a flu shot. Hope it’s not the last one ever! Lolsob
