In response to the meme, a design can be done with both gamers AND activists in mind. The two can meet and do so very often without even trying because the most successful video game protagonists have cool/beautiful designs and stand for a deep virtuous cause as well as have complex personalities.

Exactly. Not everything needs to have a message tacked onto it. Sometimes, what you see is what you get.

I miss villains who are just plain evil because they are. I do believe in redemption as its a part of my faith, but in fiction, truly evil and nasty villains are fun to write and watch. And frankly, some motives don't merit pity and only highlight how egotistical the villain is.

It's cool. I actually find joy out of being enlightened because well... I want to be a better person. Don't get me wrong. I love well written heroes AND villains in every size. To me, personality is attractive and long lasting because looks fade or change, but the soul is eternal.

I appreciate the insight as it does help me and enlighten me. Truth is, with so much media, it's hard to find the right kind of stuff that hits all the right notes fairly without vilifying any group. Just the specific individual by their character. And I am a dudette lol.

Good ones and my girl Amanda Waller has always been a favourite of mine.

As someone who is so severely allergic to nuts she can't even touch them with her bare skin or she will react, allergies and intolerances sure can feel evil at times especially when they can be lethal.

And lastly, we have Optimus Prime himself the leader of the Autobots who was confirmed to be plus sized and he's a guy you clearly take seriously. Yes, we do still have work to do, but it is getting better. And just the fact that we care is a change.
mkwizard.bsky.social
Let's not forget Shrek who was chubby, but noble, loving and complex. Classic Ursula is a plus sized mermaid who was iconically terrifiying, evil and yet was attractive and clearly confident. Bulkhead from Transformers was reimagined in Prime to be a warrior with a heart of gold.

Hmm. Well, we have Rose Quartz who was plus sized, but beautiful and bold, her son Steven who is chubby, but a natural diplomat and speaker, and you have the older character from Andor Luthen Rael who was portly, but the embodiment of a man who gave his all to something greater than himself.

Oh, don't get me wrong. Modern Sonic is really good and I love the development of their personalities, but... US Robotnik was peak Robotnik in my own opinion. I admit it could just be my personal taste, but I thought he was great in every way even in how he contrasted Sonic.
mkwizard.bsky.social
Not every instance of beauty and sexiness is objectification. A lot of times, the beauty is meant to embody confidence and self love which are good things as long as it is not vain. It is also why beauty is subjective and looks have a way of growing on you.
mkwizard.bsky.social
PS: I am not a Robotnik fangirl, but one thing I will admit about the American version of his with the curvy posterior is that while he does look goofy, the fact that he is designed to have so much personality and passion in a way also makes him attractive.
mkwizard.bsky.social
That's sad and wrong too. People should be judged by merit not their bodies.
mkwizard.bsky.social
American Robotnik doesn't just look like a mad scientist. He looks like a guy who is out to take over the world. I get that Sega wanted to go with their own design, but... Their own design is too simple and doesn't have that same impact.
mkwizard.bsky.social
Whereas American Robotnik with the big behind is goofy, but at the same time, it's got personality, I wouldn't want to mess with him, he's emotive and there are so many design details I see that go beyond his weight. He looks like he's got muscle and his taste his clothing makes him look important.
mkwizard.bsky.social
Well... Yes and no. Yes as in I can understand that it's hard to let go of your creation, but no as in if you see that your idea isn't working, maybe it's ok to let it go. I personally don't like Ball-Body-Robotnik with skinny legs and a barely emotive. It's bland to me.
mkwizard.bsky.social
Yeah, but modern Robotnik looks more like the older one now.

I believe in artistic freedom, but I do want comics and such to also be fair in how it shows that various virtues and vices can come from everywhere and from any kind of person.
mkwizard.bsky.social
If I'm wrong, I'm relieved to be so because I do want fiction, video games, comics and beyond to be fair by showing that good and evil can come from anywhere.
mkwizard.bsky.social
And with that said, I am willing to admit that the media I've seen may not be what you have seen or are familiar with.
mkwizard.bsky.social
By looking at recent media and comparing it to classic media.
mkwizard.bsky.social
I mean, why do you think bean mouth style animation is everywhere now? The aim is visual equality while avoiding objectification, but it's been taken too far. Don't get me wrong, for some media, it's cute and fun, but when it's everywhere, it's too much.

How often do you see fat characters in general shown in a negative light or even be villains? Not very often and even when they are, they are misunderstood or victims of an unjust system. They can't just be bad of their own volition like classic Ursula from the Little Mermaid was.
