It's #FragmentFriday! Have a look at this #Antwerp almanac for the year 1568. It's bound in a vellum fragment with writing from what seems to be the late 12th century. #Medieval #Paleography

It's (I think) a copy of the Decretum Gratiani, a compendium of canon law dated shortly after 1140.

We spent this evening telling kids about Old English and manuscripts at the Science Night organised by Lounais-Suomen LUMA-keskus (photo by them). Excellent work matching OE/PDE/Finnish words, reading manuscript facsimiles, and writing with dip pens 🤩 @titaraproject.bsky.social @koneensaatio.fi

Millä tavalla yhteisö suhtautuu ihmiseen, jolla
on erityisia kykyjä tai taitoja? Kuinka
peliasetelman konfliktiin päädyttiin, ja mitä
keskushahmolle tapahtuu kun tilanne
ratkeaa? Pelaatte keskushahmoa yhdessa.
Lisäksi jokaisella on oma avustajahahmo, joka
on osa sitä yhteisöä, johon tapahtumat
sijoittuvat.
Tähtiin kirjoitetun peliasetelmat perustuvat
todellisiin historiallisiin lähteisiin, esimerkiksi
oikeuden pöytäkirjoihin.
Tähtiin kirjoitettu on osa Koneen Säätiön
tukemaa Tieteen ja taikuuden rajamailla -hanketta.

Lauantaina 26.7.2025 peliä pääsee kokeilemaan Messukeskuksen hallin 3 Kokemuspisteellä klo 13-15. Peli on aloittelijaystävällinen. Se on suunnattu yläkouluikäisille ja sitä vanhemmille. Peliin ilmoittaudutaan Kokemuspisteellä. Ropeconin pelit vedetään suomeksi.

Sunnuntaina 27.7.2025 peliä pääsee kokeilemaan Messukeskuksen hallin 3 Kokemuspisteellä klo 10-12. Peli on aloittelijaystävällinen. Se on suunnattu yläkouluikäisille ja sitä vanhemmille. Peliin ilmoittaudutaan Kokemuspisteellä. Ropeconin pelit vedetään suomeksi.

Roolipelit ja larpit ovat maailman sivu käyttäneet historiallisia inspiraationlähteitä.
Seikkailuja on sijoitettu pseudokeskiaikaiseen
maailmaan tai johonkin vaihtoehtohistoriaan,
viktorianiseen Englantiin tai kosmisten kauhujen täyttämälle 1920-luvulle,
muinaiseen Mesopotamiaan tai 1980-luvun
AIDS-kriisiin.
Miten peleihin tuodaan historiallista tarkkuutta menettämättä pelaamisen
mielekkyyttä? Mitä annettavaa

keskustelemassa Jenni Lares, Niina Niskanen ja Kristel Nyberg.

Jenni Lares on historiantutkija ja larppaaja, joka on suunnitellut osana historialarppeja käsittelevää tutkimushanketta 1600-luvulle
sijoittuvan Talvikäräjät-larpin (2022). Niina
Niskanen on kirjailija, pelisuunnittelija ja
larppaaja, joka on hyödyntänyt historiaa
larpeissa, romaaneissa ja tuoreimpana mm.
radiumtytöistä kertovassa freeform-
skenaariossa. Kristel Nyberg on kirjailija ja roolipelisuunnittelija, joka tällä hetkellä
työstää keskiajan Englantiin sijoittuvaa
Tähtiin kirjoitettu -roolipeliä. Keskustelua
luotsaa Tieteen ja taikuuden rajamailla -tutkimushankkeen johtaja Mari-Liisa Varila.

Paneeli järjestetään osana Ropecon-tapahtumaa pe 25.7.2025 klo 18:00-18:45 Messukeskuksen salissa 201. Paneeli on suomenkielinen, aloittelijaystävällinen ja pääasiassa aikuisille suunnattu.

Alchemy expert Margaret Maurer and I went deep into the Penn cookery archives to see how recipe books mash up the aesthetics of different media. Featuring manuscripts that (sort of) look printed, print that looks handwritten, and a 20c book that looks “historical.”
