@mmeanderson.bsky.social and myself created a document to help teachers understand how they and their students can use AI in the classroom, as Idea Starters, Feedback Helpers, & Work Partners.

We are committed to teaching our students how to leverage AI responsibly and effectively. #bced

I've voiced my dislike of awards for several years. Shouldn't we instead praise our students everyday in the classroom? Send positive messages home? Display their work in the classrooms, halls, libraries? Invite the community to see what they've accomplished in the shop, theatre and foods' rooms?

Embrace it. Adapt. Prepare students. Evolve. 🙋
From Matt Miller's AI for Educators.
Students and I use AI to get authentic speaking dialogues for French class. We ask it grammatical questions. We use it to re write chapters with Quebecois slang vs Parisien slang. And so much more.

Quote that sticks. "We can't look at the world through 'today glasses.' We must use our 'tomorrow glasses'".(8 Miller).

Who else is excited for Manie Musicale 2025? If you're a French teacher and you don't know what this is, check it out! Game changer. I actually had a graduated student contact me to ask if the 2025 playlist dropped yet!

FSL and FI teachers. Hilarious and informative series. Pre read: On a padlet, students ask one wonder question. Then read with a partner. Post read: upload to the padlet if your question was answered. Lastly, research together all unanswered questions.

A part of my banned book display. Interactive element of flipping card and students guess, based on the covers, the reason all four share for being banned.

Part of my banned book display. Chatgpt helped me easily and quickly research each book's reason(s) for being banned. The flip up paper adds an interactive element.

FI/FSL teachers. Powerful class rd."Combining graphic fiction and non-fiction...[it]is derived from excerpts of a letter written to the Winnipeg Chief of Police by 14year old Brianna Jonnie... call[ing]out the authorities for neglecting to immediately investigate missing Indigenous people"(CBCbooks)

A Confederacy of Dunces is one of my favourites.

FSL teachers! This series is a great way to teach several curricular competencies. It allows for fun dialogue between students who take the roll of Arlo or Pips. I use this in French 11 and yes, the big kids love it. Ps. The info learnt above crows is also awesome!

Today @mrblairteaches.bsky.social and @mmevanos.bsky.social gave up their lunch hour to support me hosting a bookmark making workshop in the library. Their support and friendship has a positive impact on students and school culture. Shout out to those who show up and support their colleagues!

Have you tried Blooket? It's like Kahoot, but better! There are multiple game styles and it's not just the top student who wins everytime. You can freeze players, swap places, power up, etc. My lower students don't even try Kahoot 'cause they know they can't win but Blooket levels the playing field!

Novel studies used to be about filling up the gradebook and quizzing students on random comprehension checks. Now they are a means of learning, enjoying reading and practicing curricular competencies.

Hey ChatGPT,
Write me a 12 days of Christmas poem but instead of gifts, give me a book recommendation for a highschool library. Make it the 14 days of winter break. Make sure to rhyme like in the poem. Bam! Easy holiday display idea in seconds.

Used Canva to create shelf labels in the library! #genrify

My 1st year in the library. 1st task was to weed & genrify the French section. I hope this new look will make it easier for the FI students to find something that interests them. What do your French sections look like? (Grades 8-12 with mostly English students and 1 div of FI per grade)

I have started leveraging ChatGPT as a brainstorming partner for feedback creation. I prompt it to generate feedback that's specific to different levels of proficiency:

What feedback will help a student with a "Developing" understanding of a skill reach a "Proficient" one? #bced #EduSky

Did you know that educators get access to canvas pro for FREE. Unlock the paid features by submitting a piece of proof that you're in education. I scanned my teacher ID card. (Literally just says my name and the school I work at).

Have you tried using ChatGPT to create an escape room? I have! ✋ "Please make an escape room to review the Paris Catacombs. Make six different rooms. Use a mix of basic French and English. (FSL class)". Have the paid version? "Please create a ppt with each slide being a different room to escape"
