We feel honoured to have the support of the inspirational Marian Tompson and were delighted that she was more than happy to give us a quote for our website. Thank you, Marian, for all that you have done for breastfeeding mothers and babies everywhere.
Photo of Marian Tompson with the quote: "Thank you, MoMa Breastfeeding, for standing up for the importance and unique advantages of mother-to-mother help for breastfeeding. As the founder of La Leche League, I joyfully and gratefully send you my good wishes and thanks for taking on a commitment that has such vitally important consequences."

One of our MoMa Breastfeeding Counsellors spotted this bronze ‒ Charity by Paul Dubois from around 1870 ‒ at Harris library in Preston. Beautiful!

He was an inspiration to the founders of MoMa Breastfeeding and we acknowledge his legacy in our work. A life well lived, by a remarkable man who will be greatly missed.

He drew an unbroken line from birth to breastfeeding, naming what mothers and babies truly need. He had a deep understanding of the mother-baby dyad and wrote on many related topics, empowering women to make their own choices.

This week MoMa mourns the death of Dr Michel Odent. He was a champion for mothers & giving birth “back to women”. His advocacy reminded us that birth is a physiological, deeply instinctive process, with a natural integrity which should be protected from unnecessary intervention.

We're adding content to our website ‒ including videos. Here's our first one and you can find more breastfeeding tips on our website. 👇

"Experimenting on newborns, just to affirm adult identities, is egregious. Such experiments are possible only because medicine, in the push towards inclusivity, is forgetting our own core value: first, do no harm."

Thank you, Janhavi Nilekani, for your brilliant article.

We founded MoMa Breastfeeding on our core values that have also been forgotten elsewhere, including centring the mother-baby dyad. Mother-to-mother support in a welcoming single-sex space is vital for many mothers when accessing breastfeeding support.

🤦‍♀️Of course that should say 'and the north EAST, in various places in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland'!

We now have MoMa groups in the north west of England on the Fylde Coast, and the north west, in various places in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland. We are not in Scotland yet, but we are planning to be, although it will take a while.

“Breastfeeding women really benefit from peer support, and I was delighted to see the new women-only, mother-led service [...] MoMa Breastfeeding, which offers volunteer-led, free breastfeeding support exclusively to women, after existing groups denied women single-sex support.”

It's a couple of weeks ago that one of MoMa's co-founders and directors, @ruthlewis.bsky.social, talked to Kelly Oliver Dougal about breastfeeding, setting up MoMa and what led up to doing that. Do go and have a listen to their conversation!

We love this breastfeeding street art in Palermo, Sicily. 🤱
Street art of a family with a picnic in an agricultural setting. The mother is breastfeeding her baby, while the father looks on playing a mandolin.

We're in for a hot spell! For exclusively breastfeeding babies, their mummy's milk is all they need.
Photo of an older baby sucking on a frozen breastmilk lolly. The text says: Exclusively breastfed babies do not need water or anything other than breastmilk. In hot weather, many mothers find that their baby might want to breastfeed or swap sides more often.
Older babies and toddlers might like to slurp on or play with a frozen breastmilk lolly or cubes!

We named the mother in our beautiful logo Marian, after a woman ‒ and mother, grandmother and great grandmother – with integrity and clarity of purpose who has had a huge influence on us, Marian Tompson. We’re delighted that she was very touched when we told her about it.

We thought we’d share a little bit about MoMa Breastfeeding. The MoMa part of our name comes from Mothers Make, because it is the fundamental truth of our organisation. Mothers make everything ‒ our support, our meetings and of course the babies & the breastmilk!

We love spotting breastfeeding art and this beautiful painting by Nathanaëlle Herbelin in the Musée d'Orsay was sent by a loved one to one of our directors.

We were saddened to hear of the recent death of Naomi Stadlen. Naomi's book 'What Mothers Do: especially when it looks like nothing' is one that means a huge amount to many of us who found it enormously helpful when adjusting to motherhood.
