This bronze head of a goddess with her spooky, hypnotic inlaid silver eyes, will be roaming the shadows tonight on All Hallows Eve! Still looking for her body, 2,000 years later … 😱 🏺 1/

Hellenistic, 150-100 BCE, Mersin, Turkey. #BritishMuseum

✨Perseus and Andromeda, the villa at Boscotrecase✨

This fresco captures moments from the myth of Andromeda and Perseus. Perseus swoops in stage left to rescue Andromeda—trapped on a crag at centre stage—from the sea monster Kêtus. The monster takes up most of the lower left of the fresco panel.

The votive bronze sculptures discovered at Bagno Grande in San Casciano dei Bagni include layers of offerings from the Etruscans to, later, the Romans. This bust of a matron is the latter, given the complex Roman hairstyle (late Augustan). The braids are incredibly detailed. 🏺

#TombTuesday - Two reconstructed Roman burial chambers high above the Mosel River near Nehren in Germany. It was a family tomb for the rich landowners whose house (villa rustica) was lower down the valley. Dated 3rd-4th century AD.

An absolutely stunning photo! The 35m-long #Roman shipwreck, along with its cargo of 6,000 (!) amphorae was discovered in 2019 off the coast of the Greek Island of Kefalonia.
It’s one of the largest Roman shipwrecks found in the Mediterranean.
