We are still hosting the volunteer event but we might have to switch to vegetation work if we can't find a solution to hauling away the trash.

We need help! Our volunteer event scheduled for Saturday was mainly focused on removing trash from the marsh at Jones Point Park. Since NPS is not emptying trash, we don't have a way to dispose of the trash bags that volunteers will collect.

We can't think of a better way to celebrate your love of fall by giving back to the trail! Come help us clean up trash and vegetation at Jones Point Park this Saturday. This is a family friendly event!

🚨 Plan ahead before hitting the trail! While the trail is open many parking lots and bathrooms are closed due to the government shutdown. Trash is also not being collected, so whatever your bring to the trail take it home. 🚽 🅿️ 🗑️

Please plan accordingly!

In these stressful times, find some peace by helping us pick up litter off the trail this Saturday at Jones Point Park. That foam and plastic doesn't stand a chance against us! Sign up at buff.ly/yAaLob0

We have been busy removing trip hazards on the trail. This tree root used to give trail users a jolt but not any more! Want to see us keep removing potholes? Donate: buff.ly/TE1C80k

While there is still English ivy, it is not as bad as it was two years ago. Good reminder that 15 min removing English ivy can have a lasting impact.

We "cut a window" in the ivy by clipping the ivy at the base and around head/shoulder height to separate the upper growth from its roots, causing it to die. You can see the ivy dying in the September 2023 photo. We returned to the tree this month to check on the progress.

Sharing this photo as a reminder that removing English ivy does make a difference. The photo on the far left is a tree on the Mount Vernon Trail that was being consumed with English ivy.

Bikes can do so many more things than most people think. Today’s wonderful example is Carla Cargo’s feature on @mountvernontrail.org’s bike-based volunteer trail maintenance work. www.carlacargo.de/heroes/carla...
