🐐🧈The Witch (2015) - Black Phillip Friday [Thanksgiving episode]

We review the Puritan horror folktale to show why family tension, religious debates, and a very unruly goat make this a perfect Thanksgiving film! Plus, we discuss the harshest insult a man can get! 🪓

FlixChatter Review: HAMNET (2025) wp.me/pxXPC-lcy

A heart-wrenching, indelible work of art by #ChloeZhao, featuring a phenomenal, Oscar-caliber turn by #JessieBuckley

Glad I got to see #Hamnet on the big screen, 🧡 the stunning cinematography + ethereal score ✨

Nothing says Thanksgiving like Puritans silently judging you.

May your meal be delicious, your goat well-behaved, and may no one get banished from dinner for “prideful thoughts.”

Feel free to check this out if you want to hear me talk about something other than movies for an hour! 😁
Had a great time talking with Gabriella on the Inside Biotech podcast about the journey that led me here. Huge honor to be featured. We covered fibroblasts, inflammation, organoids, exosomes, STEM career coaching, and even aviation-inspired lab leadership. 🎙️🧬

We won’t be doing an episode on Wicked: For Good but here are my brief thoughts.

For the record, I rated the first film 4/5 stars and saw it twice in the theater.

🎬 Movie Postmortem: The Stanford Prison Experiment 🚨

🎉 Celebration: dedication to authenticity, good cast

💀 Death: no full arc for most characters, fake mustaches, some overacting

🧵 Stitch-Up: frame story to show incident fallout more prominently

🚨 The Stanford Prison Experiment (2015).

In this episode, we discuss the film and how the only lesson learned here was what NOT to do in research!

I give a crash course in study design to show why this science “experiment” should have never happened!

In our episode on 2012, we had a chance to discuss one of our favorite tropes: lead-footed dad-driving that keeps everyone from being killed by whatever is occurring behind them! 😂

Physical media does feel like sci-fi tech now. We’ve streamed for so long that putting a disc into a player feels like you’re using a cool artifact.

Like in old sci-fi movies where a character had to insert a mysterious object into a machine to project an image.

I get why kids are into it!
My boys liked watching Fantastic Mr Fox on Blu Ray and the idea of an actual disc needed to watch something. Decided to start building their own little wing of my collection so they could find some new stuff and revisit classics.

The pile has begun

FlixChatter Review: SENTIMENTAL VALUE (2025) wp.me/pxXPC-lad

A profoundly moving tale about familial trauma & the healing nature of art. #RenateReinsve + #StellanSkarsgård are fantastic. It’s time Stellan get his long-overdue #Oscar nomination!

The way Netflix encourages creators to make movies you don’t actually have to look at will basically lead to some studio executive taking credit for “re-inventing” radio dramas. 😄📻

I give you: a real time reaction of Matthew learning that Netflix wants characters in a film to say what they are doing in case you aren't watching or paying attention.

Clip is from our Frankenstein ep, so make sure to check it out wherever you find podcasts!

In new The Running Man adaptation, someone calls Ben Richards “the angriest person she’s ever met,” but I just didn’t feel that from Glen Powell. Nothing against him, but that’s just not the vibe he gives. Maybe it’s typecasting, but I feel Jon Bernthal would’ve really nailed that character!

I just rewatched this last night! Such a fun film. The perfect matinee movie!
What's a movie you never tire of?

This is one of the films that molded me as a movie fan! We will cover it at some point in the podcast.
King Kong (1976) 🎥
Directed by John Guillermin

A petroleum exploration expedition sets out for an isolated island that is said to be rich in oil.
Upon reaching there, they encounter a giant ape, Kong.

🧠 In our episode on Split, we talk about how the film should have kept more focus on Claire & Marcia!

We felt the film was at its most intense when they were fighting to escape. Also, while Casey was a passive survivor, Claire had the energy of a traditional final girl.
